Police infiltrating protest groups

The Police Department has been watching protest groups that have used unlawful tactics in the past in hopes of controlling disruptive activities at the Republican National Convention, police sources say.

Officers masquerading as corporate-bashing Bush haters have been attending rallies and meetings to learn the groups' tactics and plans for the upcoming convention, which begins Aug. 30, the sources say.

"Our guys got in there without them knowing it," one source said. "It helps us keep track of what they're doing."

Police have, in the past, kept an eye on groups known to break the law during protests, as well as those that have publicly announced their intentions to do so.

Some protest groups have suggested they will block streets and Madison Square Garden to prevent delegates from entering the convention.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg have said any protesters breaking the law will face arrest. Bloomberg stressed that people who gather in Central Park in groups of 20 or more will be arrested. Despite the repeated warnings, protesters have been organizing a march to the park, through e-mails and word of mouth.

Police officers also are being taught about special holds and sensitive pressure points in the body, in an effort to make moving unruly and stubborn activists easier and safer, a police source said.

The department also has produced videos specializing in First Amendment rights.

The department has the right to tell the perps to shut the heck up. After that, everything is fair game...

A crowbar in the crotch would activate a few sensitive pressure points.

You'd think the clothes-pin on the nose would be a dead giveaway but, hey, if it works.....

Good, because if they infiltrate the ANSWER org, they'll find out real quick that they are connected at the hip with terrorist organizations.

Follow the money boys! Phone records end email records will help.

The NYPD has infiltrated most of the Vietnam era radical protest groups...including putting undercovers into Columbia and other schools as stuents..indeed, there was one true story, which came out at a later hearing, that at a meeting of an SDS cell, there were 8 people there, and FIVE were UC's....The department got hammered over this during the hearings in the 70's for corruption..so they're very careful about what they can do..the agreed to some very stringent court imposed limitations..

"Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg have said any protesters breaking the law will face arrest."

..and placed in chain gangs to clean the city streets up after the GOP convention concludes, and pay for any damages they commited to any and all properties, while wearing a sign, front and back, stating, "I am a criminal".

Reminds me of an old joke, change the names and it still applies.

Clinton has good news-- 1000 syncopatic females to serve all his sexual need. But the bad news is that one of them has AIDS and he doesn't know which one.

Saddam has good news-- 1000 body guards to protect him. But the bad news is that one of them is a CIA agent and he doesn't know which one.

Fidel Castro has good news-- 1000 trained economists to advise him. But the bad news is that one of them is actually intelligent and he doesn't know which one.

SSSSHHHHHHHHH!!!! Some Rats can read!

Once they figure out this info is a week old - they'll change their plans. But, then again, that was a week ago. So their plans are a week behind. If they start now, they could find out who the infiltrators are. But by then the convention starts. They're screwed - no matter how you look at it...

I hope for the return of COINTELPRO. And that would be mild. You should hear my neighbor's stories about the tactics he witnessed down on the SF Waterfront as a young boy, during the late 1920s and early 1930s. Those blabbering on about "civil rights" these days would have called the cops and national guard back then all kinds of nasty things. Since the end of WW2, the level of permissiveness has been astounding. Even with the HUAC the surface was barely scratched, and insurgents and revolutionaries have, by and large, gotten away with anything they wanted to. I wonder what our Founding Fathers would have done with today's rabble?

I do believe they witnessed worse. Nothing that a billy club to the back of the head can't fix...

I think the owners of some of the extreme sites like:

http://www.shutitdownnyc.com/

will be very closely watched...as will the affinity groups and anarchist wackos. the majority of the protesters coming are between 16 and 22 years of age and will up to no good.

They are eternally suspicious of each other, as it is.

There are countless factions and sub-factions, each w/their own ideological purity tests. Each faction has within it competing egos, thinking ahead to their eventual political or journalistic advancement. Back-room deals; ad hoc alliances;everyone together getting together to drag down those who might personally benefit from a book deal or personal connections or an inheritance. Jealousy is rampant.

This is obviously intended to reach their eyes and destabilize them. The LEO is fully aware of the factionalism and uses it as a lever. I do not doubt that some of the pre-emptive interviews elicited a load of snitching & score settling. Many quiet drug busts will go down over the next 75 days, pre-emptively taking out many of those thinking of attending.

'Twas ever thus. I bet there are 35k protesters, tops. Many, many are having 2nd thoughts and carefully crafting their politically-correct excuse for not attending. Med school and law school are always good ones. Ill parents will work. Morally superior pacifist stances will abound.

There were only 6-8k in Chicago in 1968.
