You might not be a liberal but your argument is indistinguishable from one.
<< Interesting that a Jewish group is more concerned with the results of a poll than which candidate would be best for the group's interests. >>
Thank G-d -- and you, Numbers Guy, for the at least ONE rational comment on this thread!

I favor White Castle hamburgers. Or at least I used to.
Thanks for the voting chart and the link.
I still find it amazing that FDR got 90% of the Jewish vote in 1940, given FDR's isolationist policy before Pearl Harbor, his anti-semitic immigration policy, and knowing that news of the Holocaust was coming back from Europeans during the late 1930's.
I don't know what issues swirl around in the Jewish community but I do know that the deaf community don't care a bit about their huge unemployment rates, low education, or horrible English literacy rates. They instead focus on silly things like getting more shows to be federally closed-captioned. I think this is the same with all "minority" groups including Judiasm, and of American voters at large. Immediate benefits, not long-term solutions.
Also, negative comments make a MUCH bigger impact than any positive comments put together. Jane Fonda wasn't representative of all Democrats, but she sure turned off a lot of military people from voting Democrat forever. I know she did that to my dad. The adult Jews have had to put up with a lot of crap in their life, and they associate anti-Semitism with Christians/conservatives, justly or unjustly.
Likewise, I think that the reason that a majority of young Jews are voting Republicans is because they go to college and they see that anti-Semitism is very prevalent there now disguised as "anti-Zionism". At the local uber-liberal university... any posters advertising the Israel club are immediately defaced with pro-Arab messages written on them.
Just tossing the theories out in the wind... reading this thread is breaking my heart.
I think Reagan got 40% of the Jewish votes mainly because of Carter. Carter was critical of Israel, told a Jewish Mayor that "if I get re-elected, I'm going to f*ck those Jews".
Also, if you read Carter's 1980 state of the union address, he was talking about a massive defense buildup and invoking a military draft. Carter brought back registration for selective service in the summer of 1980 in preparation for the draft and that alone was plenty to scare voters of any faith.
I'm Irish/German and I grew up in a Sicilian/Calabrian neighborhood. The dynamic is the same with every other ethnic Catholic group - the old people vote Democrat because they have a fond memory of FDR and they are pro-union etc.
Then there are the subset of Italians who are unionized and a fair number of them vote Democrat as well.
And then there are the Italians who run their own businesses or work for family businesses and they vote Republican.
But sometimes their kids who go off to college get poisoned with wacky ideas and wind up voting Democrat again like their grandparents.
I'd say about two-thirds of the Italians I know vote Republican. Which is more than I can say for the Irish.
The Jews I know don't even know who Moses is.
It's an easly mistake to make. As I just posted to someone less positive, the Jews I know don't even know who Moses is. They are all about a culture that makes them feel unique, like the Amish but they are not like the Jews I read about in the Bible. That is the mistake I've made over and over in the past.
Ole Jim is working on his Junior Jew Researcher merit badge, that's why he's such an expert on what Jews think. I'm sure he's about to tell us about all the Jews he knows. Where this "What the Jews think-What the Jews do "fetish comes I don't know, but it's bizarre.
As to Jewish guilt for the Crucifixion, his words were
Maybe it's a Jewish custom to judge people this way and maybe that explains the anxiety over what some people had a part in 2000 years ago carrying over to their descendents so many generations later.

What a strange concept it is to judge each other based on our fathers' deeds. I have known wonderful people who had horrible fathers and horrible people with wonderful fathers.

Yeah, it's all a Jewish thing, we're still guilty about the Crucifixion and all. Thanks for the intelligent comment.

Is it "guilt"? I hadn't even considered that. I gotta admit that all this Christian bashing that has been going on lately has given me some guilt about the feelings I'm having about the bashers.
And if I've heard it once I've heard it 20 times in the last couple of weeks from people I know "What the hell is their problem" and "their" is who you think it is...and I don't know any anti-semites.

Youre right about negative comments. In terms of the the thread, dont equate posters here with Republicans. Politically theyre used to depress turnout.
BTW, in 1980 Anderson got about 14% of the Jewish vote, Jews who wouldnt vote for Carter, but wouldnt vote for a Republican either.
I've asked you several times to provide evidence for your assertion that "most Jews wish doom upon Christianity". You have yet to do so. Back it up, or retract it.
The Clinton stuff was all over the news then, and he asked me, "Do the people in Alabama want to get rid of Clinton, or keep him?"
I answered, "Well, that depends on whether they are democrats or republicans. The democrats want to keep him, and the republicans want to get rid of him."
Then I asked him the same question, "How about the people in New Jersey?"
And he answered, "We see Republicans as Christian and pro-life."
I think if I had gotten all offended and said, "well, that's what we are" he would never have gotten to know us and decided to like us. So we were just friendly and I think by the end of the trip, he knew our leanings, and maybe we gave him a few things to reconsider. That's the way most people change their minds about things, a little at a time. I didn't think I could re-educate him in less than a week. I still think he was a really nice guy, he was just wrong about some things.
Why would you expect them to be?
It sure is. Good job pulling out those old posts.
Figured it needed to be said after reading some of the more less 'thoughtful' posts I've seen here.
Why shouldn't I expect them to be?
To say what I did about blacks as a group does not insult Condie Rice. Oh, that they all had her great analytical ability. However, if you read her bio, you know that Republicans registered her grandfather to vote when Dems would not. Her family have always been Republican.. What I said still goes for blacks as a whole. Look at the NAACP, the black journalists who stood and cheered JFKerry at a UNITY conference, etc.
As for the Jews, I hope they vote for Bush like they did for Reagan, and I do understand that the Dem polsters and main media are using their clout to skew things for Kerry, but I also stand by what I said about Hollywood and the Jews. Do a little investigating and see just how many are Jewish that are rabid Dems--starting with Barbra S.
Also, my friend in a western state tells me how it is in the Jewish women's clubs she attends. They are blinded by their traditional liberal ties.

Doesn't 75% of Jews live in NY and California? I guess the other 25% live in the red states!!
