A new poll commissioned by the National Jewish Democratic Council says American Jews will still vote overwhelmingly for the Democratic presidential candidate, John Kerry, despite US President George W. Bush's policies toward Israel, which have been widely praised by the Jewish community.
The poll, released on Monday, said American Jews preferred Kerry to Bush by a 75 to 22 percent margin. The survey of 817 likely Jewish voters was conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research between July 26 and 28, and has a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percent.
Respondents said in 2000 they had voted for Vice President Al Gore over Bush by a similar margin of 76 to 21 percent.
Exit polls in 2000 showed Gore won 79 percent of the Jewish vote, and Bush 19 percent.
"The White House and (President Bush's political adviser) Karl Rove in particular have expended a lot of resources on this Jewish vote. Just like with Hispanics, they've come up with zero," said Ira Forman, executive director of NJDC.
Matthew Brooks, executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, a rival group, discounted the survey's results since the poll was taken during the Democratic Convention in Boston.
"I discount these findings because this poll was taken right in the middle of the Democratic Convention, right in the middle of a massive deluge of Kerry press coverage," Brooks said.
"We stand firmly committed to the notion that President Bush will do substantially better among Jewish voters than he did in 2000," Brooks added.
Another survey of American Jewish opinion in January found that 31 percent of Jews would support Bush when matched with Kerry, who was not yet the nominee at the time.
The new NJDC survey said 66 percent found Kerry to be better on the issue of Israel, while 34 percent found Bush to be. Only 23 percent of respondents felt the country was moving in the right direction, while 77 percent said it was on the wrong track. Twenty-five percent approved strongly or somewhat of the way Bush is handling his job as president, while 75 percent disapproved strongly or somewhat.
A new national Zogby survey released Monday showed Kerry ahead of Bush 47 to 43 percent. Without Independent Ralph Nader and other candidates the lead stretched to 50 to 43 percent.

Just like Christian liberals, Jewish liberals want to do good, help "the little guy" - they just have a different way of defining that, than we conservatives do.
Secular Jews will continue to dwindle in number, but religious Jews are enjoying a population boom.

How this thread went from a biased poll to "Jews helped Hitler" (i.e. the Jews are as bad as the Nazis and were actually responsible of the Holocaust) is beyond me, but that's what often happens. Very telling.
Let me tell you though that I was probably a lot closer to it than you.

I never could figure out why Jews vote for rats but a couple things that really struck me as clues in the last few years:
The Ashcroft confirmation hearings where one Jewish Senator after another scowled at him while denigrating his Christianity flat out saying he is unqualified for the position because his beliefs were too strong.
The scowling at Mel Gibson with "how dare you make a movie based on the new testament".
There is an extreme hatred/fear of Christians and Christianity among most American Jews that never really becomes obvious until something or someone Christian threatens to bubble up to the mainstream.
That much is fact. I'm sure the reasons for it are more complex than I can guess at. It is ironic that if Christianity met the doom that most Jews wish for it that their own doom would swiftly follow.
Would it be "a lie" to say that most Muslims are hostile toward Jews or is only wrong to recognize hostility coming from Jews toward Christians?
Good point. However, after reading this thread, I've been thinking about the Jewish vote. Contrary to some of the more 'conspiratorial' posters, could it be just an aspect of the order of what we see here in the South? My family has voted x for so many years, so therefore I will vote x. I know this to be the case in several instances of family and friends that vote for a Democrat just because. No good reason, I know they disagree with the candidate on many issues but they vote Democrat nonetheless. I would favor this few of just human nature contrary to the sickening view (not you wd) I've seen from some on this thread

But then, you are approaching the issue from the standpoint of logic and reason.
Look at the "Hollywood elite". The percentage of Jewish people in H'wood is stunning. They are way left liberal and buy into the Dem "we libs are the only tolerant Americans" ethos. They identify with all the "victim" groups because of the historic victim nature of the Jews.
I have Jewish friends who are for George Bush because of Israel and national security, and they are trying to influence others in their community, but it is an uphill battle.
Look at the blacks and go figure. They just don't seem to have any analytical ability. They just follow the spin, with no clue as to where their true interests lie.

I know of one instance where that happened but that man was later tried in Israel as collaborator. Apology accepted. I am sure you saw terrible things, things done by the Nazis, who are alone responsible.
I guess it just does no good to point out the bias of this poll, and the fact that Reagan got almost half of the Jewish vote. Folks will just spew the same garbage. How insulting to Condie Rice, to put down blacks that way.
