A new poll commissioned by the National Jewish Democratic Council says American Jews will still vote overwhelmingly for the Democratic presidential candidate, John Kerry, despite US President George W. Bush's policies toward Israel, which have been widely praised by the Jewish community.
The poll, released on Monday, said American Jews preferred Kerry to Bush by a 75 to 22 percent margin. The survey of 817 likely Jewish voters was conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research between July 26 and 28, and has a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percent.
Respondents said in 2000 they had voted for Vice President Al Gore over Bush by a similar margin of 76 to 21 percent.
Exit polls in 2000 showed Gore won 79 percent of the Jewish vote, and Bush 19 percent.
"The White House and (President Bush's political adviser) Karl Rove in particular have expended a lot of resources on this Jewish vote. Just like with Hispanics, they've come up with zero," said Ira Forman, executive director of NJDC.
Matthew Brooks, executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, a rival group, discounted the survey's results since the poll was taken during the Democratic Convention in Boston.
"I discount these findings because this poll was taken right in the middle of the Democratic Convention, right in the middle of a massive deluge of Kerry press coverage," Brooks said.
"We stand firmly committed to the notion that President Bush will do substantially better among Jewish voters than he did in 2000," Brooks added.
Another survey of American Jewish opinion in January found that 31 percent of Jews would support Bush when matched with Kerry, who was not yet the nominee at the time.
The new NJDC survey said 66 percent found Kerry to be better on the issue of Israel, while 34 percent found Bush to be. Only 23 percent of respondents felt the country was moving in the right direction, while 77 percent said it was on the wrong track. Twenty-five percent approved strongly or somewhat of the way Bush is handling his job as president, while 75 percent disapproved strongly or somewhat.
A new national Zogby survey released Monday showed Kerry ahead of Bush 47 to 43 percent. Without Independent Ralph Nader and other candidates the lead stretched to 50 to 43 percent.
The vast, vast, vast majority of Jews in the United States are "non-praticing" Jews, and are very anti religion. They support "land for peace", they want a Palestinian State, most of them believe in abortion on demand even partial birth abortions, they are homosexual advocates, they embrace political correctness, and most think that the "walls" should come down in step with Palestinian demands even though these walls have decreased terrorist invasion and bombings in Israel. They believe that Israelis should leave the West Bank and Gaza because it was "illegally taken from the Palestinians" even though it was the Arabs who attacked Israel, and they took over the land so that there would be a buffer zone between them and their enemies. In other words, they don't want to be reminded that they are the "Chosen People" of God, and are required to obey the laws, statutes, commandments, covenants, and Feasts that El Shaddai gave to them and commanded them to obey. He even told them what would happen when they obeyed his laws and what would happen if they didn't. They don't want to held accountable for their actions and words, and so they do this by pretending there is no God, and the Torah & Tenach are just stories, fables, exaggerations of history. So it is not hard to believe that they would vote overwhelmingly for a person who is like them. He is their "Jewish Presidential Candidate". Even Liebermann would be rejected by them because he is an observant Jew, although he waffled on his beliefs during his campaign for the democrat candidacy for POTUS. I think, however, if more and more hypocracies are revealed about his statements, then many Jews may abandon him because he will be unreliable to keep his promises to Israel, and his promises to them for supporting him.
OMG, that is so funny!
What evidence do you offer that "Most Jews" wish for this?
OK, so the title should be "bush making inroads with jewish voters"
jewish democratic loyalties are all about what america looked like more than half a century ago. that world disappeared in the 1960's but not the jewish memory of it.
alas much of jewish opinion from the old days was shaped by communist lies.
Wretched over at belmont has a good write up of Podhoretz's piece in one of the NYC rags in which Podhoretz wrestles with old and new demons. Wretched's quote of line from TS Eliot get's it right.
Orthodox Jews vote for GWB not because of Israel, but because of his values. It's that's simple!!!!!!
And the Republican Jewish Coalition ran TV ads in support of Ashcroft.
I am always amazed when articles like this are posted, at the ignorance that gets posted in response.
And one other thing. Most of the uber-players in the Demo party are Christians. Daschle, Pelosi, Clinton, Kennedy - they are the real movers and shakers. Why do Christians hate America so much??? (Just kidding...)
I predict (based on the stats you posted here, the state of the world and the Jews that I speak with and am related to) that Dubya will pull 32% of the Jewish vote.
Yep, this is good news. As poster Malakhi points out in the other thread, the really good news is this poll was commissioned by Democrats and taken during the convention...when Kerry should have been polling his strongest.
Very good news.
My husband was given, (from a Jewish client who despises Bush,) an article written by John Loftus, published in the Aug. issue of the Jewish Community News. It is really lenghty but the upshot is that the majority of Jews believe that in 1920 an organization known as the Muslim Brotherhood which is the original AQ and Arab Nazis was working with Hitler. It became the official policy of the The Third Reich to secretly develop the Muslim Brotherhood as the fifth Parliament, an army inside Egypt. After WWII they moved to Saudi Arabia at which time BinLaden became interested. They also believe the CIA is an arm of this secret society which hates Jews. On top of it all they believe Bush 41 and 43 are also involved and support the Muslim Brotherhood.
The evidence is the observations I made in the post that you are replying to. A Christianity that is hidden and without influence ( as clearly most American Jews prefer ) is in no position to guard against what the rest of the world desires for the Jews.
"American Jews are consistent in their support for Marxist-Socialists ... they like the idea of the government protecting them and caring for them - and that is how they vote"
Bingo....this has been my experience with older Jews. I believe the older generation will have to die out before the majority of the Jewish vote turns conservative. Many of the older Russian Jews still carry with them the Marxist-Socialist doctrines that they and their parents fervently supported back in Russia.
There have to be serious flaws in the thinking of anyone, regardless of background, religion, race, or experience, who votes for a Democrat. And, when it comes to voting for the likes of Clinton and Kerry, I just cannot understand the lack of intelligence to think through and understand what damage will be done to the country with these characters at the helm.
Looking at it numerically rather than percentage-wise, there are far more Christians than Jews who are Democrats.
I don't believe this poll is true. Look who conducted it: some liberal Jewish group. It just not possible to be true. I'm Jewish and although not the smartest guy in town, I don't consider myself being stupid. I will be voting for Bush; so will most of my friends.
I sincerely doubt that a "majority of Jews" have ever even heard of this particular conspiracy theory.
Where are Ed Koch, or other pro Bush Jews? They should be speaking out. Koch should be given a slot at the Repub convention.
I hope you right Pharmboy. I am sure some of the liberal clergy will make sermons at High Holy Days services. My Congragation has a rule against it. But the Big conservative one in KC. Used to have a leftist Rabbi. He is no retired and writes slanted editorial in the KC Jewish paper. People laugh at his venom against Bush. But he is old and misguided in my eyes.
