Brazil said recently that it will bolster policing of its part of the Triple Border Area with Paraguay and Argentina. The move is welcome, if overdue. The Triple Border Area has long been identified as a fund-raising, training and procurement haven for diverse terrorist groups, including al Qaeda and Hezbollah. Brazil's federal police said last week that they have established a new unit and will increase river and air patrols in the area. Authorities said they will combat drugs and arms smuggling, but adhering to a traditional state of denial, they did not mention terrorism. Still, terrorist groups would be affected by the policy, since they are heavily involved in smuggling and other activities to raise funds, which they send around the world. As much as $50 million is believed to have been transferred from the Triple Border to Hezbollah accounts, Sebastian Junger reported in a 2002 Vanity Fair article.

If they're wide open, then why do thousands get arrested each year for violating the border?
The NYT ran a lengthy story on the triple border months ago. Add the instability in nearly every S.A. country, the thriving marxist underground, the narco armies and the dollars they control, the centuries old resentment/hatred of el Norte and we're looking at the fire next time.

Because they know the odds of getting through are much better than the odds of getting caught.
Coop, thousands being arrested is a drop in the bucket compared to the millions who roam about and live in this country unabated. Until the borders are secured and employers are severely fined for employing illegals there will be no "homeland security!", not to mention extremely expensive for American taxpayers.
Then say that, Partner. This "wide open" rhetoric is just silly.
DOH!
What, you think our southern border is secure and our sovereignty is safe? We have upwards of 15 million people in our country illegally and you make a statement like this? Hehe..
A few of my partners were hanging around drinking coffee, and we came across your post. Thanks, we all had a good belly laugh.
LOL!
Yeah, this titanic endless conga-line of millions entering our country illegally, from God knows where is just silly!!
The news coming from the southern hemisphere is not good and has not been for a long time. My sources have been talking about the dangers for at least 5 years.
Here are two more articles that lay it out pretty well.

That's true, however
That guy might be able to pull down one on occassion, like an African lion, that by no means says that the majority of zebras aren't escaping.
Thanks for the links.
We need to be as informed as possible!
Show me where I said that, Mr. Depressing.
Many are apparently coming through the Arizona Border, but not the Mexicans, but middle East people.
Read an article on the Tombstone Tumbleweed" they have a collection of articles on "Borderline Politics".
Videos have been taken of the people coming across, Arizona property owners are up in arms because their properties are being trashed, the residenta are also finding articles left behind like prayer rugs, not to mention unsanitary things...
The residents were policing the borders themselves not sure what happened to that, but I recall the news media airing a story on the subject.
I think we shold close both borders totally until we can get a handle on what is here.
Unfortunately, it appears that it will take a tragic attack, shown to have been launched by terrorists who entered illegally through the southern US border, before mainstream politicians decide to take any serious measures to improve interdiction there, etc.
There was a thread earlier today about how Asa was on CSPAN this morning spouting the same Cheap Labor Republican bobs and weaves. This after the monumental earful he got at the Temecula townhall meeting on Friday.
Unfortunately I am convinced now you are right.
Well maybe W is planning on stationing those hundreds of thousands of troops who are returning to America on our borders...hint, hint...
or am I just "wishful thinking"... LOL
