Wives steadfastly pro-McGreevey
Trenton Times ^ | August 14, 2004

Kari Schutz, McGreevey's first wife, conceded she has known for some time her husband is gay, though she declined to say exactly how long.

the shy librarian visited her parents on vacation with young daughter Morag in 1995 and never came back,

Schutz would put no time frame to the length of time she knew McGreevey was gay. She also would not comment on whether she was aware of anyone else with that knowledge holding it over his head to make demands.

"You'd better ask him that," Schutz said.

McGreevey met Schutz on a one-week cruise in 1990 and married her a year later. Their daughter Morag [Gaelic for Mary] was born in October 1992.

1995 divorce papers said McGreevey had focused on his political career, neglecting his family.

One of the most jarring moments for her came in 1993 when Republicans sent out fliers showing a car similar to McGreevey's in front of an adult sex shop with the words: "Caught with his government-owned car enjoying himself in Manhattan."

With current Supreme Court Justice Barry Albin as attorney, McGreevey filed a libel suit against the Republicans. It was settled in 1995 when the state GOP sent a letter of apology and called the photo "inaccurate,"

Matos McGreevey, a native of Newark's Ironbound section, met her husband around the time of his divorce.

She is executive director of the Columbus Hospital Foundation in Newark and was public relations manager of the city's St. James Hospital.

A former president of the Portuguese American Congress, Matos McGreevey was active in voter registration and naturalization campaigns and once served as commissioner of the Elizabeth planning board.

She went into preterm labor three days before McGreevey's election, giving birth to Jacqueline on Dec. 7, 2001,

How can ANY woman want to make love, have sex (whatever you call it) with a man who is sexually interested in other MEN?!? The thought of being involved with someone who is...oh, never mind. I'm just out of the modern loop, I guess!

In the same way that men are interested in lesbian women. They may view them as a challenge to overcome and they don't perceive any male competition.

It's a pretty bizarre story all around, and as it sinks in I think some commentators at least are beginning to realize McGreevy's statement was completely self serving and disgusting. But I have heard no one state what would have been obvious maybe 30 years ago - the only decent way to handle this would have been with a written statement of apology and a quiet resignation. Not playing for the cameras over which way your pointer swings.

I totally agree. It's one thing to have a "gay" husband and not have relations with him. I think bringing children into a marriage when you KNOW your spouse has a same-sex lover is disgusting.

ABSOLUTELY!
They keep pulling this crap, and women won't want gay men to do their hair.

women as a rule LOVE gay men....go figure

They (generally) don't have to compete with other women and the men present a challenge.

I have a knockout sister in law with an equally handsome husband, two great looking, athletic kids, she is very successful.

Her best friend is a polite gay.

I don't believe he ever did.
I'd guess artificial insemination.

Morag. Apparently it's Scots (or possibly also Irish) Gaelic, and means something like big or tall. I didn't know it either and had to look it up.

It is kind of a red flag, though. What's up with parents who'll give a kid a name like that?

The red flag that hit me was Irish. Seems Ireland pops up a lot.

"In Newry, there was a fellow who wanted to make contact with a pharmaceutical company, so I took his card," he said during the trip. "Same thing in Belfast. I had lunch with a fellow who is involved with various start-ups. So I picked up his card and I'll pass it to our people. I don't know if anything will materialize from it, but you never know."

You never do know what will come up do you, you sly dog.

According to this site, Morag is Gaelic for "Great", while "Mary" is Hebrew for "Bitterness". According to another site, Sarah or Marion are the usual English substitutes in Scots Gaelic. I don't think the name translates to Mary.

It is kind of a red flag, though. What's up with parents who'll give a kid a name like that?

It's not unusual for New York area Irish catholics to give their kids Gaelic names. Sean is Gaelic for John, for example. And there are a lot of Seans here. Can't say I know any other Morags, though.

I see that on Google too. Also "tall or great." Also the diminutive of big or tall (a little hard to figure that out, maybe girls get diminutive names). Also "embracing the sun." That last one's from babynames.com, but they have a reputation for inventing creative etymologies to fit the strange things that people decide to name their kids.

So a lot of this is unscientific. If you can find some of the same letters in a name as a Celtic root they'll make the connection. If it looks like the Irish word for Mary or the Celtic root means the same as the Hebrew root of Sarah, they'll go with that. When the G-7 met this year a water park gave its dolphins names from the language of every country, and some foreigners told the management that they'd never heard such names in their own language.

It also looks like "Morag" is also the name of the "Nessie-like" monster that's said to live in Loch Morar, a large Scottish lake. Little Morag is in for a hard time in life.

So it's not Celt for "Mary"! Maeve -- that's a more common choice. How many Morags are there?

Why did Dani Matos bring a girl into the world this way? To be fatherless? A piece of costume jewelery? A piece of political theater?

When the Canadian Kari speaks of staying in connection, what are we talking? Moola on the wire every month? That'd be the connection I'd say. Why else ain't she ever been back!

McGreevy was an Irish American before he was a CORRUPT American. And it can't hurt in Jersey to pander for the Irish catholic vote by visiting Ireland.

Of course, you have to try not to run up a $105,000 tab while you're there for that strategy to work...

It actually makes me think of Rutgers again.

Even Dr Jonathan McCormick, Rutgers President has a website on an Ireland server.

Don't forget to visit the other like I had in that post to Irish Funds. Irish Funds come up often. Clinton even bought a house there.

This is exactly why i'm wondering if his wife already knew, how could she have sex with him?
I'm thinking maybe she didn't and got artificially inseminated to time birth of child. This is just a theory after reading all this in the past few days. I gotta wonder..

Don't know about the first marriage; but the second sure appears to be one of convenience.
