Kilborn: Bye-bye to 'Late Late'

Craig Kilborn will say nighty-night to his job as host of "The Late Late Show" on CBS - after only five years in the seat.

Kilborn, who was the original host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," said it was "the greatest job" he's ever had.

"CBS was very generous in their offer to re-sign me but I simply want to try something new," he said in a statement. "I can now focus on writing and producing different television projects I haven't had time for. And this is cool - I will continue to wear makeup in my everyday life."

Word of his departure - revealed to his bosses Thursday - has kicked off a scramble by show producers at David Letterman's Worldwide Pants Inc. and CBS to find a replacement.

Speculation has surfaced that CBS might make a run at NBC "Late Night" host Conan O'Brien, whose contract expires in December 2005. Other names being floated are: Amy Sedaris ("Strangers with Candy"), Jeffrey Ross ("Watching Ellie") and Jillian Barberie ("Good Day L.A.").

I won't miss Kilborn and his liberal rants at all. I thought something was up with his demeanor when he did the ESPN guest anchor SportsCenter slot last Sunday.

Nobody will ever make that show as cool as Tom Snyder. They should give it a whole different name.

He was good a few years back while on the daily show. I liked him there but on CBS he got stale real fast. Amy Sedaris would be incedible. Strangers With Candy is the problably one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. Too bad they cancelled that too.

Tom was a liberal.

I don't know where you folks get the idea Craig is a lefty. He probably is, but I never heard him make political comments.

And he had Ben Stein on the other day, plus he has had Patricia Heaton on several times...he has Repub guests and they seem to like him.

Should I try watching it once before it goes away?

The only thing good about that show was the large number of hot babes showing up on it.

Tom was a liberal, but he was a great conversationalist and all around nice guy. He was funny and his interviews were interesting and informative and didn't revolve around asking the same 10 boring canned questions every celebrity interviewer asks.

I don't care what Craig's allegiance is, he's boring and rude and doesn't give good interview.

Yikes. I don't know.

I don't watch every night anyway, so I won't really miss him.

I just said he did have Repub guests. He liked having Ben Stein on.

If he had the snipers thing though..yikes.

A couple years too long if you ask me. He was the host who had a picture of George W. Bush on the screen with a caption "Snipers wanted".

Maybe we need to put on a campaign for them to hire Ben Stein as the replacement. He's a very good dude, in addition to being a good conservative.

(The audience remains silent from beginning to end.)

Announcer's Voice:"And now, Craig Kilborn will say goodbye while wearing a French beret."

Craig Kilborn: (Putting on a French beret). "You know, I just wanted to say goodbye."

Announcer's Voice:"And that was Craig Kilborn saying goodbye while wearing a French beret."
