Checking in again - SE Orlando - near the airport. Starting to rain. I just found my dog (Dachshound) hiding in the laundry basket under a pile of clean towels. When I picked her up, she was trembling all over. I've never seen her do anything like that before. Dogs must be able to sense something because it is just barely raining outside right now - no thunder or anything. My Amazon Gray parrot is unusually quiet tonight - not uttering a single word. She's usually driving us crazy this time of the night, yapping up a storm.

That's weird. I'm Soutwest of Volusia County in Seminole County, 12 miles from downtown Orlando and we have not received the first winds yet. Unles this is some weird feeder band thing, I don't know why you would be geting the first effects before we did.

The timing of this hurricane is very suspicious...

I have known old women in South Louisiana who get on their knees and pray when a storm is in the Gulf. Some of these, I thought for sure would hit South Louisana, but would end up in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.

If you believe in a Trinitarian God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), then you also know that all things are the Father's Will

I notice the most recent projection takes this over Savannah -- a Bishop who backed out of the statement.

And it still can hit Savannah with some punch, which is sad.

This one will probably diminish some by then, but if it is far enough away from shore from North Carolina to Massachusetts, it might intensity and then make a mess of Massachusetts (Kerry's home state) -- if the current projected path is correct.

God might be trying to get the voters of Florida wake up and realize He is still the Almighty, and he doesn't want innocent babies killed by abortion.

The talking head weather guy in Orlando just now said Seminole County can expect the worst winds after 9:00pm.

Now, I'm really going to go see if I can see some of the Olympics.

I thought it a bit odd, too, until I remembered that on the Gulf Coast it's the back side that will drive the water ashore...so it could be possible.

It's already happened and subsided. Maybe he meant that the damage reports were yet to come.

Unclear reporting, typical of CNN.

JellyJam:

"One of our reporters just arrived in Arcadia and he's doing a live TV report. He says that the town (of about 30,000 or 40,000) has been devastated. Loads of damage. That's odd for that city ... it's normally the place people evacuate to from the coast when a hurricane is coming. Now it gets leveled by a Category 4."

The eye is right down on top of Haines City right now. Still well defined, clear eye on radar. 105-122 mph winds according to that wind map a few posts ago.

Heading up near the lakes towards Kissimmee, still driving up Hwy 17.

Yeah.

We talked about it going right overhead of that town.

I'm in NW Seminole County and this is just a thunderstorm. No big deal. Rain? Yes. Like we don't have that. We need it. Much about nothing.

The thing about Hurricanes is that there can be a tremendous difference within a few miles, one place may just get some rain and medium gusts, while a few miles a way homes are levelled, consider yourself lucky.

85 is no big deal

Not correct at all. Inland communities do NOT normally receive coastal breezes. The trees are not prepared to withstand high winds, including Cat 1 hurricane force. Inland wind damage is enormous. Can't wait to hear what location you are playing armchair quarterback. Your profile doesn't tell us.

Actually, the projections haven't taken it over Savannah since about noon today. Most recent shows it 50 or so miles east of FL out in the ocean.

The eye is now passing just to the east of Haines City.

It's funny. I am also hearing reports that several people are just starting to feel the wind. I haven't got the exact location though.

My brothers place is getting hammered right now - pool screens getting blown out. Tree over in front yard. Getting very interesting.
