I am a swing voter

Posted on 08/12/2004 12:05:29 AM PDT by Lepidopteran

I am a swing voter, neither Republican nor Democrat. I supported President Bush in his response to September 11 and I supported the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. But I like John Kerry's message about the need to do something about the people in this country who have no health insurance. It's a hard choice.

It's lawyers like Kerry's running mate John Edwards who make millions with exorbitant lawsuits against doctors and healthcare providers that drive healthcare costs and insurance rates up, and in a lot of cases drives Doctors out of practicing medicine because they can't afford the malpractice insurance premiums. The last thing we need are 2 liberal lawyers in the White House.

Go Bush!!!

Narcissism,

Freudian term, indicating an exclusive self-absorption. Narcissism is considered a normal stage in the development of children.

An individual with narcissistic personality disorder tends to harbor an exaggerated sense of his own self-importance and uniqueness. He is often excessively occupied with fantasies about his own attributes and potential for success, and usually depends upon others for reinforcement of his self-image.

A narcissist tends to have difficulties maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships, stemming largely from a lack of empathy and a propensity for taking advantage of others in the interest of self-aggrandizement.

I did not have time to read all 300+ responses to you, I just saw this thread for the first time. So I hope I'm not posting a duplicate.
Surely you know that Campaign Promises mean nothing unless they are kept. A good indication of where a candidate will be going in the future is to look at his track record. So here it is:

Please take a look at Kerry's Actual Voting RECORD on health care, as well as a record on how many votes he did not even show up for:

Kerry has "Thin Record" on Health Care

it's a hard choice to earn your money, have it taken from you at gunpoint and given to people who've made poor choices?
If you'll swing to Kerry over healthcare vs. national defense, then you're on the yellow side of the fence my friend.

To Lepidopteran: What is so hard to figure out Kerry would be SOFT on Terrorism, hand it over to the U.N. and RAISE YOUR TAXES ??? And that's not even the TIP of the iceberg of the shenanigans you could expect. Two dam* trial lawyers for President and V.P. ?? Yikes !

Vote BUSH !!

Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my Viking Kitty/ZOT ping list!. . .don't be shy.

If you think doctors, medication, and hospital stays are expensive now, do you think it will be cheaper if we throw in a government bureaucracy to run the thing?

I am self-employed and I haven't been able to afford health insurance since 1998.

Look at it this way, I didn't get sick or injured, so in a way I saved some serious bucks. I'd be much poorer than I am today if I had somehow managed to keep paying for my insurance.

Ignore whatever Kerry and Edwards say about health care. They are not serious. Here is how you can tell someone who is serious about taking the burden off of people like me who can't afford health insurance---they will push to make it fully deductible from your income taxes. I was only able to declare a maximum of 30%, back when I was still paying it. People whose insurance is provided by their employer don't have to pay a dime of tax on it.

And they don't have the joy of paying double Social Security either, like I do.

Keep knocking the tax burden down, and people will be able to afford all sorts of things...

"But I like John Kerry's message about the need to do something about the people in this country who have no health insurance."

Anyone with a tiny bit of intellectual honesty would realize that the reason many people can't afford health insurance is because of the trial lawyers like John Edwards. Come on, put on your thinking cap. If the trial lawyers would lay off the doctors and drug companies, then the cost of health care would drop dramatically.

Ya know sumthin' darlin? I went without health insurance for a couple of years and paid out of pocket. It was cheaper than premiums most times.

Try again.

Byrd said in part, "I think we try to have good will. My old mom told me, `Robert, you can't go to heaven if you hate anybody.' We practice that. There are white ni**ers. I've seen a lot of white ni**ers in my time. I'm going to use that word."

I know this post has gone on forever, and I'm sure you've seen a bunch of responses like mine, but I want to let you know a couple of things about health insurance just the same.

1. Not everyone wants health insurance. It's expensive. If you are relatively young (20's -30's) have no family history of major diseases etc... you probably don't need insurance. It's a risk, yes, accidents happen.

If I had every dollar that I payed to my insurance companies for the last 16 years I could fund at least one of my child's college education. That's even with three births, a multitude of ear infections, sinus infections, and other maladies that have effected my family in that time. I am not really getting value back on my dollar. If I was single, I'd opt for a nice savings acct. instead of insurance.

2. Uninsured children. That is one of the biggest jokes I have ever heard. During those times when I was between jobs, or not yet at a company long enough to enroll on their insurance plan, or my income was low enough, my kids were insured through the state. Getting that taken care of took a little effort - that's all. If a kid is uninsured it's generally because the family falls into my first category or the parents are lazy as all get out.

Not everyone wants insurance. Not everyone wants to pay for someone else's health care. Not everyone wants to pay for someone else's elective health care. Govt. run health care or insurance = bad bad bad. Prices will be higher, funds will be misspent or just plain lost. Govt. Health care would end up funding things the majority of people in this country find sickening and repugnant. It's a bad idea and it would be used for political purposes. OK, do you understand now?
