Our forefathers were brilliant to put the electoral college in place. Without it, Philadelphia, NYC, Chicago, LA would choosing the President.
Don't yell at me about excerpting, Ive only posted an article once before way back in 99 and I felt lucky just to get it up here, ok guys.
Everytime I hear anyone mention getting rid of the EC I wanna give them a swift kick in the @ss.
If we used the popular vote, there would be a shift away from over-weighting of the least populous states (because the number of electoral votes is proportional to population, plus two per state) which would hurt Conservatives.
But this would not cause attantion to be focused to large costal states, precisely. It would cause attention to be focused on MEDIA MARKETS. We'd be talking about "swing metros" instead of "swing states."
Instead of fighting for states with even splits based on party, they'd be focusing where the undecided/independent vote was greatest. They would leave alone markets where votes were pretty much cast in stone. For instance, largely black markets would be ignored, since Dems take them for granted, and Repubs have little hope to prifit from advertising.
These people weren't complaining about the electorial college when Clinton won!

Once an amendment is passed by Congress, 3/4ths of the states must ratify it. It takes only 13 states to block any proposed amendment to the Constitution. Which 13 small states are willing to cut their own political throats if their legislatures ratify that amendment,
COUNT THE NOSES. SUCH AN AMENDMENT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. And other than some legislative garbage promoted by Hillary!, there is no way to dump the Electoral College except through an amendment.

You may not believe this (I couldn't at the time), but I have a very liberal friend who sent out an email promoting getting rid of the Electoral College in order to.... (drum roll)...
...end the tyranny of the majority.
I tolerated his mass-emails up to that point but shot him back an email telling him not to send me any more of his hateful ideas.

With a direct popular vote for the Presidential Election, a close outcome could cause every vote in every precinct in the country to be challenged. Massive recounts, total chaos.
I'm going to go against the grain here. I believe that the EC is outdated and a handicap. Candidates currently don't have to fight for every vote in every state. They can just ignore the states that they feel they can either easily win or badly lose.
The EC also virtually guarantees that a third party vote is totally wasted, which is EXACTLY the way the top two parties want it.
Don't give me crap about how the EC saved us from Gore, the EC also gave us clinton.
Since no candidate had received a majority of the popular vote, a runoff would have been between the top two candidates, GHW Bush and clinton. George the Elder would have mopped up the floor with clinton.
Take away the Electoral College's ability to confer a presidential sheepskin, and that train blows through here faster than a tender moment between the Clintons.
Why is it that people with a questionable education at best think they're smarter than the Founding Fathers? Even worse, why is it that so many of these pinheads get elected to Congress?

When are Americans going to learn this is not a democracy? In fact, the concept of a democracy was dismissed out of hand at the Constitutional Convention. No democracy had ever succeeded, and democracy was considered equivalent to mob rule.

This is really a deja vu experience for me because I was reviewing my links today and just happened to look at the report with details like this:

What idiots today can't seem to comprehend is that the Founders came up with a solution that allowed the country to be formed. If the small colonies had not been given certain powers, like the Electoral College and two senators each, there would never have been a United States, as we know it.
Unfortunately, our educators don't understand this themselves and therefore don't pass it along to their students.
As for getting rid of the Electoral College - it will never happen. Fortunately there are enough "small states" to keep a Constitutional Amendment from ever happening.
If some activist judges try to overturn the Constitution, there will be a full-scale rebellion, and I will join it.
