I was in Gloria in Delaware - we lost power and cable, the cable only because the neighbor's willow tree came down and the cable company had laid the cable over the roots......idiots.
We were only without power for a couple of hours, but had friends staying with us who had been evacuated from where they lived. thankfully they had enough warning and moved most of their stuff upstairs and that they had flood insurance - the water line was more than 2 feet up the living room walls when they finally got back home.
Gloria did far more damage up your way than it did to us down here, even though we had a huge amount. I'm originally from NYC - so am quite familiar with LILCO and the urban areas of the Island.
Cool!!!!!!!!
I always liked the Sarasota paper when I spent my summers there - haven't read it in years, though.
Thanks. Washing bed linens tonight. Expecting several house guests in the coming days.
Just lovely.
We fly down to Fort Myers on Friday morning returning the following Monday. We're visiting a dying relative with a five year old. What fun being indoors!
Don't bet on it. Call before you leave for the airport.
"Looks like Ft. Meyers, Florida is the bullseye for Charlie in the current forecast."
I was just reading through the replies AFTER I posted mine.
We're flying down to Fort Myers on Friday morning to visit my sister-in-law who is dying - cancer. We will be bringing our five year old daughter. She is ACTIVE. I didn't want to make this trip and warned my spouse that our daughter will drive her nuts. Now this might be a reality.
They live in a retirement settlement called Fiddlesticks. Just a few weeks ago they had to evacuate their development because of a fire.
Yikes.
Be careful and good luck. Maybe you can slide in between them.
I'm so sorry about your sister; I lost mine to cancer, too.
Prayers for your SIL and for your family and your planned trip.
Hi, Onyx, you have mail.
I'll be checking the weather channel at
10 minutes before the hour, which is the
time they do the Carribean.
My daughter might be in for it this time.
Grand Cayman is flat. Sometimes the hurricanes
sweep right over it with nothing but high seas
and some flooding. Not many tress on the island
either.
Prayers for yall.
Take care and keep us posted
when you're able.
She's on chemo, busily losing her hair, thin as a rail in a wheel chair. She recently had 2 1/2 liters of fluid drained out of her lungs. It's so sad. I really didn't want my daughter to remember her like this.
We had seen her in April when first diagnosed with this. They gave her 3-6 months. Then she looked normal. My husband is insisting on this trip. I dread it. We never got along but in April we made peace.
She has issues ... a major one for her is an abortion her husband demanded years ago ... she is envious of me having a baby late in life ... her baby also would have been born late in life ... she is Chinese ... my husband is Chinese ... I am Caucasian ... she looks at my daughter, Sarah with many emotions ... it makes me very uncomfortable and worse yet she is still torturing her husband with this regret ... her husband regrets it and has apologized numerous times ... he was in tears when we saw him in April about this regret. She views me as stealing away her baby brother. She literally imagined that she was his mother. No kidding.
I hope she finds peace since things cannot be changed. I wish just my husband was making this trip down alone. Oh another thing ... she has always been a problem in our marriage - interfering, outspoken etc.etc.. It was so bad that we didn't invite her to our wedding. She would have spoiled the day ... so I am not looking forward to this for many reasons.
I just wanted to say goodbye on a peaceful note which I did in April and not stir up things with my daughter etc.. She is a bitter woman. I feel sorry for her but there is nothing I can do to change her disappointments in life.
My husband's family scares me. His other sister died at age 46 from Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and pancreatic cancer. This was my daughter's Godmother. His parents died in their 50's of cancer. One by one they are dying early in life.
I'm sorry about your sister. Cancer is such an awful death. I can't think of anything sadder that seeing a sibling, that you love, dying right before your eyes. Hopefully if she is a believer you will have a grand reunion in heaven. That is something to look forward to. Imagine how happy you will be to see her and other loved ones.
"Don't bet on it. Call before you leave for the airport."
Good advice. It would be a blessing in disguise if we couldn't go due to weather.
I'm not going to make it that long - but I'll keep your daughter in my thoughts and prayers until I get back to the forecasts/reports in the morning.
Thanks ... pray for my sister-in-law. She's not accepting this and has issues that I don't know if she will be able to make peace with.
You are in my prayers..........as is your SIL.
This sister of my husband who has cancer just turned 60.
Well the old Burger King sign down by Georgetown harbour used to always get blown down.
Hope all is well....it is mighty flat.
I have a good pal in Key West who has a sail charter service. He's had to put his 45 Hylas Ketch in floating concrete slip in a leeward lagoon and hope for the best. He's sent the go-fast boats up to Naples. I spoke with him while this morning....he ain't leaving of course.
