From Debka today:
"Iran announces further delay in completion of its first Russian-assisted nuclear plant at Bushehr, not now due to come on stream before October 2006. DEBKAfile adds: Delay will not hold up Irans nuclear weapons program going forward several underground facilities dispersed around country."
"DEBKAfiles intelligence sources report Turkish PM Erdogan is sending three top aides to Jerusalem this week for damage control on deteriorating relations.
Israel has discovered Erdogan, under pressure from Tehran, agreed to bar Turkish airspace to Israeli planes as corridor for strikes against Iranian nuclear and military facilities."
you're all set.
some info from some NY people I know who work for the airlines - many international flights into NY have simply quietly been cancelled for 9/2 (the day of the Bush speech), just taken off the airline schedule. and NYC talk show host John Gambling was talking about seeing some fighter plane activity over long island sound this sunday around 6:40AM.
(In the wee hours- yes, that would have been Sunday morning... (I always think of it as very late Saturday night) I heard a very large number of flights going over this area: SW Connecticut near Long Island Sound)
Mystery illness strikes Caston schools
Associated Press
August 23, 2004
FULTON, Ind. -- State health officials are trying to determine the cause of an illness that spread through Caston schools last week.
At least 80 students were absent Friday, seven from the high school and 73 from the elementary school, said Superintendent Bob Huffman.
Huffman said each of the seven sick high school students has a sibling attending the elementary school in the district of about 800 students about 50 miles northeast of Lafayette.
Students began getting ill Thursday afternoon, some of whom got sick on their bus rides home. The high absentee rate prompted Huffman to contact the Fulton County Health Department, which brought in the state Department of Health.
Health officials checked temperatures and took food samples in the cafeteria, Huffman said. He said that food poisoning has not been ruled out, although officials are leaning toward a virus.
The school served chicken nuggets for lunch on Thursday, and the bags and boxes they came in have been checked, he said.
"Everything we've used, we've kept back in case it needed to be tested further," Huffman said.

I am sure they are doing familiarization flights around NYC right now...
I saw and heard on scanner a couple Navy helicopters in Los Angeles this weekend. They got lost a couple times...so I dont know exactly what they were up to.
I imagine a lot of assets will be in NY/NJ area so perhaps Navy Seals will be covering SoCal in the next couple weeks.
(Last month there was a Coast Guard Dauphin helicopter doing some type of DHS flight over my place....30 miles from the ocean)
I think this is actually a thunderstorm microburst. The radio station in question is in Miramar, FL. There was a high precip storm cell directly above this area just before the time of the original posting. This storm "collapsed" in about 15 minutes. And the SPC has a high wind storm report at 1640UTC just 6 miles west of their location.
Thanks JP for the update.
I don't know.
You can always ping him or FReepmail him.
Thanks Donna, that's similar to what I recall except that I thought the actual thread was titled something like "Why al Qaeda attacks on Tuesdays".
The search function is tough to maneuver for me at IH, but I'll dig around as well.
I think "micro burst" is a weather related term.
I was curious about the reported objects in the sky as well. More weather balloons?
Adding a little clarification to rutless's post:
In the Cold War era, there were nuclear artillery shells, land mines, recoiless rifle rounds, pathfinder rockets, torpedoes, and lord knows what else.
When the .gov discussing securing nuclear weapons, most of the time they are talking about ballistic and guided missiles. The US spends a lot of money to make sure these things are being guarded, disassembled, or scrapped and some type of records are being kept.
As for the nuclear artillery shells, land mines, torpedos, etc, its anyones guess. I dont think they are as heavily guarded and accounted for as the missiles are, and I dont think Paul Williams has accounted for that in his book. It would be a lot easier for one of these to disappear from an unguarded warehouse at an abandoned military facility in the former USSR than any other type of nuclear weaponry.
A lot of people have "suitcase nukes" as their only frame of reference when discussing portable nuclear weapons, and they dont realize there are many types of miniaturized nuclear weapons that were developed during the Cold War.
About ten years ago, there was a lot of talk about unsecured nuclear weapons falling into the hands of the Russian Mafia, and I suspect something got out. IIRC, some Russian Mafia types were busted with nuclear materials about 1995 or so.
Thats my .02...
That's probably what it was... The freeper reporting a microwave burst may have misheard or believed micro burst was referring to microwave.
Do you know what his user name is? I think it had some numbers after it.
Exactly.
Chemical weapons were just as diverse. Especially air dropped cluster bomb units and whatnot.
There is also a lot of WWII era chemical and biological warheads buried in certain parts of the world. I dont know if they would work or not, but a huge chunk of the Japanese Army's bio-chem research material was buried in Manchuria after WWII.
