Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 10:16 p.m. EDT NY Times Blew Cover of Key Counterterror Agent
An al Qaida computer expert who was secretly arrested on July 18 and has since been providing critical intelligence on the terror group's plans for coming attacks on the West was rendered useless this week when he was outed by the New York Times.
"By exposing the only deep mole we've ever had within al Qaida, it ruined the chance to capture dozens if not hundreds more," former Justice Department prosecutor John Loftus told Fox News on Saturday.

I am afraid you hit the nail on the head!
It was AFTER the NYT released the name that the Adminstration was put in a position that denying it wouldn't have made sense and confirmed it.
The NYT was the one who released the name publicly first.
Yes of course I am. Maybe if I just stamp my feet a little.
What motive would anyone, on either side of the political fence, have for leaking this persons name to the NYT?
The government is full of Democrat sympathizers who are happy to leak information to discredit a Republican administration. Belive me, this is no rare occurrence. Most career bureaucrats, at least in Washington DC, are Dems and many have longstanding cozy relationships with the press--and they have common agendas. This is a political fact of life and, IMO, is a more likely scenariou than an administration source blabbing.
BINGO!
I'm glad others remember the serious and often fatal damages done in the Carter years to USA intelligence operatives, worldwide.
No matter how this particular incident actually plays out in public, I think it past time the media either reigns itself in, or starts facing serious charges.
Would it be fair to ask who gave the Times the info in the first place?
"I'm glad others remember the serious and often fatal damages done in the Carter years to USA intelligence operatives, worldwide."
The damage was incredible and the outers were heroes and those damaged by the outings were the bad people thanks to the lying lunatic mediots in charge of the main media.
George W. Bush will win reelection by a margin of at least ten per cent.
