IS THE FIRST FAMILY 'UNFIT'?
New York Post ^ | August 8, 2004 | Editorial staff

Posted on 08/08/2004 4:55:02 AM PDT by Quilla

The New York Times sure lived up to its motto, "All the News That's Fit to Print," with its broad coverage last week of the terrorist threats to the Big Apple. One news item, however, was apparently not fit for readers' eyes: The arrival of First Lady Laura Bush and her daughters at one of the targeted buildings.

Indeed, on Tuesday alone, the Times devoted at least half a dozen articles to the terror alert, totaling more than 5,000 words — and not a one mentioned the morale-boosting appearance of President Bush's entire family at the Citigroup Center in Midtown.

How'd it happen?

"We simply had more news . . . than we could accommodate," a Times flack said. "There was no calculated decision to omit that event."

Yeah, right.

Readers heard from Andrew Greene, a computer consultant who said the area might be "overprotected," and from other workers, like Goe Giamanco, who fretted about the high-visability presence of machine-gun-toting cops.

Sen. Charles Schumer, Mayor Bloomberg and Gov. Pataki each got detailed mentions.

One story focused on the psychological impact. A shrink, Andy Morgan, said the alerts might "lower anxiety."

Another piece tallied financial costs.

Even for the Times, not mentioning the Bush family's visit was a new low. Glad the Post called them on it.

Well it took them long enough. And who among the liberal media enablers will pick it up now? (Hint: none.)

I've always loved the portrait of Lester Maddox done years ago, if you look on the hall table behind him there is a
copy of the Atlanta Constitution with a fish tail sticking
out of it!

The only thing the ny slimes is fit for is the bottom of a bird cage or for puppy house breaking efforts.

I'm sure the NYT would have found room for the story if Jenna had had a "wardrobe malfunction" or if Laura had told one of the press flacks to "Shove It"

You made my day, pal! Effective today I am not buying The New York Times again! I kept buying it for the crossword puzzle, but now I have decided that I don't want the rag anywhere near me! Thanks a lot for posting this last 'meany' from these people in that rat hole on West 43rd Street! I shall try to organize a boycott of the stores and merchants that advertise in the paper. It's the least that these weasels deserve!

I would, however, line the floor of a birdcage with the NYSlimes, and overfeed the birds...
