Don't you think it would be fun to watch both Kerry's eating BBQ ribs, with the sauce dripping on their chin.....

Sorry I can't give the month...
but I did notice that while I was "house=sitting" a colleague's home here in
the swanky Westside of Los Angeles, they had a recent article of "Sunset" managazine
that claimed to have an article about the best BBQ in "the west".

I'm a North Eastern city slicker myself, but I had great barbeque (mutton, beef and burgoo) recently at the Moonlite Inn in Owensboro, Kentucky.

In Georgia, BBQ is shredded pork. I much prefer Texas BBQ, generally smoked beef brisket.

in Memphis there are two:

Corky's (several locations - we like the original on Poplar)

The Rendesvouz (down near Beale Streer)

Both make great "Memphis BBQ," which is basically pork ribs and pulled pork shoulder.

I think Rendesvouz has the better Memphis 'speciality,' which is dry ribs, just a seasoning rub, no sauce on it (though you can get sauce if you want). They also make an interesting lamb BBQ. I am not, personally, fond of ribs, unless I'm in a mood.

My favorite, however, is the Corky's pulled pork plate. Their sauce is great, they accompany it with baked beans and a really good cole slaw, and their rolls are to die for. The kicker is to get an onion loaf, which is really thin onion rings smooshed down into a loaf pan. You have to cut chunks off with a knife. The don't seel that to go, for good reason, because it takes too long to fix for the drive up and it doesn't reheat well.

Both places will ship FedEx to anywhere. It's well worth it.

Memphis BBQ has won every national championship that compares regional BBQ for the last decade or so. It's the gold standard, without a doubt. The Memphis in May BBQ contest is the top of the BBQ circuit. It's a blast to attend, and even more fun to participate in (so long as you don't have to drive anywhere ;^>)

You're not likely to get much response to this; FReepers are not opinionated when it comes to BBQ.

wanna' piece of this action?

I can't remember the name, but there was a FANTASTIC BBQ place on the west-side of Norman OK...
It was in an old, converted gasoline station structure.
Maybe this was on Porter? just a few blocks of downtown?

I don't know if they owned it, but a couple of senior-citizen ladies took orders and
delivered orders to the customer.
Including soft drinks (Coca-Cola) in the REAL-DEAL glass botles!

Going back a few years...and being an equal time guy for the Sooner and OSU Cowboys...
I will give a high, honorable mention to "Latigos" on the east side of Stillwater, OK.
I only visited twice, but they served some great BBQ.
