"During my little break, I found a new smoker. It's a beauty built on an old truck chassis with a huge propane tank welded to the frame."

Well, as long as you were putting your time to good use. When's the pig pullin'....and you ARE inviting all your FReeper FRiends, aren't you?

We'll judge the quality for free during the break-in period ;o)

That, my dear, is a beauty! Looks like some Nasa engineers designed a cooker.

As a consolation prize, the College Diner on El Cajon Blvd near UCSD is a great cheap place for lumberjack breakfasts and great cheeseburgers.

This sounds like it is definitely worth the trip.

The Old Mexican Cafe in Old Town is good, too. They are expensive, though. The French Cafe on Coronado Island is great, too, if they are still there.

Yeah, I know, but was hoping no one would notice. =o) The one I have at Whole Hog has me looking like a real doofus, as usual. LOL

Hecky's in Evanston, Illinois, is pretty darn good.

And besides the bbq, they make yummy peach cobbler and sweet potato pie.

JP, have you been here? I still miss Hecky's!

link

From the link:

"Sharing honors for great ribs over in Evanston is Hecky's Ribs , a shack of a place on the corner of Greenbay and Golf that consistently infuses the city with the soulful scent of hickory smoke and warm molasses. Hecky's has a more expansive menu than Carson's including the Northwestern students favorite, rib tips, which are the less expensive, but no less delicious, end pieces from the baby backs. They satisfy a ribs hankering without the expensive tariff. Also on the menu at Hecky's are cornbread, red beans and rice, chicken, slaw and truly fantastic fried shrimp served in a sack like french fries."

Course, I am a northern girl who visited the south one time (wish it could be more!) and have to be satisfied with Carson's BBQ in Chicago.

Check out my post 535 then! One more place for you to try.

post your favorite BBQ joint, where it is and what your favorite thing is at that place...

Hickory House
Denison, Texas

Best in the land. No particular favorite ... it's all good. I usually go for the brisket.

Actually, I was in Texas last year and had the best BBQ I had ever tasted.

Just north of San Antonio... "Rudy's" I think.
