I'm not sure what that has to do with Keyes moving to another State to run for the Senate
Bush is the one that wanted Cheney
There's nothing wrong with making a false prediction about one's future political office. It happens honestly all the time.
That's true ... but I recall many of us being slammed up against the wall for not being "true" conservatives .. principled and all that
Like I said .. having Keyes go after the Dems on the Senate Floor would be a hoot
But he is going against what he said in 2000
Since I have said all along that I will support Bush in the GENERAL election, well, no, I don't see the irony of telling you guys to support Keyes for the Senate. Pretty much every Republican I've meet in Illinois who supports Keyes for Senate is also backing Bush for President. In 2000, I voted for Keyes in the primary and Bush in the general. In 2004, I wrote-in Tancredo in the primary and will be supporting Bush in the general.
Have you seen any "Keyes for Senate" people pushing Peroutka or Badnarik for President in Illinois? I'd really like to know. If anything, the same "conservatives" whining that they'll vote for Libertarian Jerry Kohn for Senate will be the types likely to vote for Libertarain Michael Badnarik for President. That seems more logical to me.
I'm backing Keyes for Senate precisely because I think he will energize conservative Republicans in Illinois to get off their butt and go VOTE in Illinois, which would help every Republican on the ticket, from Bush on down...
How many nights did we sit up to be told over and over we weren't principled enough, true enough conservatives?
Why one night we were told that Alan Keyes got George Bush elected, remember?
In all this time I have never heard George Bush say ONE WORD about Alan Keyes; yet there are reams of papers dedicated to the things Keyes has said about Bush and Republicans, the majority of them condescending.
And here we are, once again being told that WE have misunderstood something else that Alan Keyes has said; and the most insulting remark so far, at least to me, is the reason it's not the same is because WE thought Hillary Clinton was a carpetbagger because we didn't like her!
Another case of who are we going to believe, Keyes or our lying eyes.
Never mind what Keyes said in 2000; it's different now.
Look, Keyes said what he said; leave Cheney out of this. He didn't consider himself in contention; after Cheney's search, Bush decided HE wanted him. It's not the same.
How is it different? The Illinois GOP wants Keyes.
Like I said .. having Keyes go after the Dems on the Senate Floor would be a hoot But he is going against what he said in 2000
It's only an issue if we make it one.
If someone on FR doesn't tell me that daily, I hold a mirror under my nostrils just to make sure I'm still alive. : )
Strawman arguments.
I could be wrong .. but I was under the impressions the Illinois GOP interviewed several people for the canidate to run .. who submitted Keyes name?
It's only an issue if we make it one.
I'm not making it an issue .. just pointing out what was said back then
Actually, it is alike. The similarities are stunning:
Both men made honest predictions on their own political future. After being asked, in both cases, to serve in a public office they hadn't sought, these men decided they would do what they hadn't previously considered doing, for the good of the country.
At least, that's what I hope. Keyes hasn't made any announcement yet.
I have no idea. Wasn't it a committee member?
I think on Monday or Tuesday they interviewed a dozen people or so. That's when I first heard Keyes' name mentioned.
Keyes' Name Floated by GOP Insiders as possible Senate replacement
Keyes is not making a good judgement call to walk into a situation like this, knowing the party is in shambles. It's going to be interesting to see how much support he gets from the RNC too--and that will be telling. There is also a money factor to consider.
Obama is very popular, even in Southern IL. It's going to be an uphill battle that Keyes will not likely win.
So Alan Keyes was on the search committee for the Senate seat in Illinois?
Because that is the ONLY way it would make it closely alike.
I really don't think Keyes expects to win. The campaign will be interesting, and the debates should be wonderful, but in the long run, I don't think he expects to win, and I don't think he wants to run in a race he would win.
If he won, he'd be expected to accomplish some of the things he advocates, but to get anything passed in the Senate generally requires compromise, and Dr. Keyes is too principled for that. (Of course, he said in 2000 that he'd never carpetbag like Hillary! so maybe he's less principled than he used to be...)
I think Keyes plans on giving us an interesting campaign, getting his name back out in public so that he can continue to command those high speaking fees, and convincing a few more people to become True Believers so that his PACs and educational organizations like RenewAmerica will get more donations.
Icon? Icon?
My money is on "grassroots conservative activists," also know as Keyes supporters.
I said they were alike, not identical.
They're not even close, but keep rationalizing it to yourself, if you must!
Rationalizing what?
There's nothing wrong with a political figure making a false prediction about his future political office. It happens honestly all the time. Cheney did it, and I'm glad he did. It looks like Keyes will, too.
Ok. Whatever.
False prediction? What does that mean?
And while you're answering, how about finding me a quote where Cheney said he wasn't in the running for the VP spot.
Thanks for the link ..
