I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but we were all against America's "favorite carpetbagger" up in New York not that long ago...

As much as I respect and like Dr. Keyes, I don't think this will work.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

I said it the other day and I'll repeat it. I don't like carpetbaggers and will not donate to Alan this time.

I agree. I do respect Alan Keyes, but his positions are solidly based in his beliefs. From what I saw of Obama, he is a say anything kind of guy if it will get him elected. Keyes won't back off where he comes from and he will make a great debater, but in Illinois he won't get much of a listen I fear.

Yes, Hillary IS a carpetbagger. She wanted elected office so badly, she landed her broomstick where she thought she could win.

This situation in Illinois is different. Keyes didn't look for this. The Illinois GOP came to HIM. Desperate times, and all of that.

Depends what your definition of "work" is. Will he win? Probably not. Will he make Obama work for the seat and fire up the conservative base? You betcha. And that second point is my definition of "work."

I surely hope that folks here realize that this situation, especially this thread, forever changes the dynamic of any future debates for our cause.

Right?

You ARE ready for the inevitable, aren't you?

Don't you just love the hypocrisy?

Things like this are wrong when THEY do it, but perfectly fine when we do it.

For the record, I've never stated here or elsewhere anything negative about Hilliary picking NY to run in. I bashed the people there for electing her, but IMO, the "carpetbagger" rubric is a century out of date.

Should make for interesting debates but Mr. Keyes has a somewhat off-putting demeanor.

If it comes down to a 'beauty contest' I think he will suffer the fate of Adlai Stevenson; admired by everyone but unelectable.

Keyes is handicapped by his late start and lack of campaign organization and residence in Illinois, but he is energetic and an extraordinary speaker who will take Baraka on directly without the hesitation and apology that would hinder a white Republican candidate. As the Republican nominee, Keyes neutralizes race as an issue and reframes the choice as liberal vs. conservative. Keyes is such a wild card that a victory is plausible even if highly unlikely. Watch for Keyes and Baraka to generate some of the best political oratory of the season.

First of all; it worked for her. Secondly; she didn't break the law and neither will Dr. Keyes. And thirdly; we were against her because she was a "carpetbagger" we called her a carpetbagger because we were against her. I can't speak for everybody but I hated Hitlery long before she ran for the Senate.

Not doing it would definately NOT have worked. We had nothing to lose. At least we gain Alan Keyes debating Conservative principles.

I agree. I guess the GOP has given up on this race. Why Jack Ryan will not go back into the race is beyond me? What a dumb issue to walk out on. Remarkable!
