Is the GOP going to fund him or hang him out to dry?

Good question!

He probably won't win, but sometimes in life it's not about whether you win or lose, but how you fought the good fight.

Just what is the price of sacrificial lamb these days?

It is not a great point, unless Keyes has a house in Illinois.

All readers can go back to your original post to see that you misquoted the man.

Having fun helping Soros' boy?

Does your hatred of Alan run that deep?

If Bush shows up in Illinois, Sink will get on board

What does Keyes know of that state?

Alot.

He has been in the state many, many times helping Republicans and prolifers.

The movers and shakers in Chicago know him, like him and respect him.

Winning friends and influencing voters already, I see.

Howlin, that comment would be better directed at sinkspur rather than EternalVigilance.

Cool.

I'll go out on a limb and predict that that will occur.

"I wish Keyes would run in a safe GOP state."
Illinois is the ideal place for Keyes to run. There are too many people there who blindly vote Democrat. Keyes is a magnificent debater, knows what he is talking about, has high moral standards that he does not back down from, has a magnificent record in public service and........he's black!
Obama seems to be a nice kid, but he is not dry behind the ears. Keyes will (very nicely) eat him alive. Whether Illinois voters will be honest in choosing the best man....remains to be seen.

I am aware. At least one person I know and admire disagrees with me. Fair enough. But there is only one right answer. However, I can assure you that I was in position to see the audience, and 75-85% of the audience was on their feet, cheering wildly at Keyes' comments. If you read the transcript, you'll see where Keyes mentions the outpouring of support and affection he was being given. Here's a paraphrase: "You see, I can do this all day...draw your applause and so forth, but what does it all matter if after you leave here you keep putting people in office who do not stand up for the things for which you believe and applaud?"

Terrific speech to a solidly-Bush supporting audience. On a side note, though, if these debates are not being attended by tens of thousands of people, he may want to bring down the tone a notch for the cameras. This is a very inexperienced person talking, but many people who see him on TV say he looks angry, and having met him in person, he is one of the most likeable people I have ever had the opportunity to meet.

Keyes doesn't have a chance against Obama.

You mean as opposed to any of the other candidates the Illinois GOP was considering? Like the undercover demo-rat Barthwell???

Yep. Better to go down fightin' then to hand this seat to the Dems on a silver platter.

Somebody in Illinois has GUTS to go for this! I like that kind of boldness. Another word for it is leadership.

This gives me hope for the GOP, which I've railed on myself from time to time.

..what the heck is the deal with people here??...

In any battle between good and evil, right and left, there'll always be a few in our ranks who...well...Spielberg, portrayed it best:

The most excruciating sequence in the film is not the incredible landing but a section early in the final battle when Corporal Timothy E. Upham, played by Jeremy Davies, loses his nerve. A translator who had never seen action before this mission, the Corporal is assigned to supply ammunition to Capt. Miller's men spread out in the ruins of a French town they are defending against the Germans. His fear freezes him on a stairway as one of his comrades is brutally killed by a German soldier just a few steps away and he takes his hand off his rifle's trigger as the German emerges and passes by him. Davies's performance is excruciating, in the good sense that his acting is so good that you want to shoot him, or at least slap him hard, for his cravenly conduct that is responsible for the death of some of his comrades.

He's always had a house there.

Nobody has answered my question: does Keyes have a house near Chicago or anywhere up there?

If he does, then that strawman argument is relevant.

If he doesn't, it's not.

Besides, I don't recall Dick Cheney saying anything about carpetbaggers, do you?
