He's always had a house there.

Nobody has answered my question: does Keyes have a house near Chicago or anywhere up there?

If he does, then that strawman argument is relevant.

If he doesn't, it's not.

Besides, I don't recall Dick Cheney saying anything about carpetbaggers, do you?

It doesn't matter. Get on board the Republican train. Quit thinking of ways to lose.

Well, he's not staying at our house.

No, I don't think Keyes has ever had a home there.

You're right that there are differences in the situation, but the Dick Cheney residency thing has some similarities. Cheney didn't set out to become the GOP VP, he was picked after it was clear the other names he and Bush looked at wouldn't do. He had to do some maneuvering in residency to qualify under the Constitution for a position he hadn't previously sought for, but it was legal and ethical.

Same with Keyes. He didn't seek this position (and therefore isn't a carpetbagger), and he has to change his residency to qualify under the Constitution. The Illinois GOP picked him. In November, Illinois voters will decide whether he represents their state more or less than Obama.
