HOLLYWOOD VS. AMERICA
1st Linda Ronstadt, now Don Henley booed
'We used to be able to have civil debate in this country. Not anymore'
Don Henley |
Singer Don Henley was booed at a concert in Orange County, Calif., after mentioning his friendship with Linda Ronstadt, who gained national attention after alienating much of her audience with a song dedication to leftist filmmaker Michael Moore.
At the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, Calif., on Thursday Henley made several political comments between songs, according to a report in the Orange County Register.
One comment began: "Given what my good friend Linda Ronstadt " but was interrupted immediately with a chorus of boos from the audience.
According to the Register, Henley responded: "Whoops Orange County," adding, "We used to be able to have civil debate in this country. Not anymore."
Orange County is known as a politically conservative area of Southern California.
Later in the concert, Henley, a former member of the Eagles rock band, suggested his next song could be sung as a duet by President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Written by Randy Newman, "Political Science" has the U.S. dropping nukes on nearly every other part of the world.
One of the lyrics is: "They don't respect us so let's surprise them. We'll drop the big one and pulverize them."
"[Henley] really blindsided everyone," Joshua Owen of Long Beach told the local paper. "There was booing. Some people headed for the exits."
Henley performs tonight in Saratoga, Calif., with future concerts on his summer tour slated to include Washington, Alaska, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia and Texas.
As WorldNetDaily reported, last month Ronstadt's onstage tribute to Moore at the Aladdin in Las Vegas was booed by concertgoers in attendance, hundreds of whom walked out. Her action prompted Aladdin President Bill Timmins, who attended the concert, to ban Ronstadt from the property. Staff checked her out of her room and escorted her to her tour bus.
Bears repeatin'...
They don't like free, intelligent thinkers -- they'd rather have mind-numbed robots that they can "download" their information to without questioning or feedback. It's so blatantly dishonest to describe what he did as a "debate."
So, the event billed as a debate?
Have friends who went to hear the guy in S. Florida recently. They were pretty turned off by his Bush-bashing rants too. My guess is, however, that we didn't hear much about that concert in the news because most from S. FL also hate Bush. Orange Co, CA though, is a horse of a different color.
>> What a "bubble headed bleach blonde" thing for Henley to do.
Henley has been a left-wing extremist as far back as I can remember.
Yep. The elite wants one-way communication - them down to adulating, paying patrons. Anything else is lack of free speech or lack of civility. One obvious solution is to avoid their performances when at all feasible.
That's not 'civil debate,' that's an 'in your face!' diatribe, a pathetic mini-polemic calculated to alienate and insult.
Good call!
The paying audience also may have been cheated if the promo of the "CONCERT" didn't include the political activities.
I have a mic and I control the debate. (They just don't get it.)
That's not debate, Mr. Henley. It's treason and fighting words. These liberal entertainers are lucky the audiences are just booing thus far.
Henley probably couldn't "debate" his way out of a paper bag.
"Boy, are these pampered know-it-alls thin-skinned, eh?"
All libs are. That's why they always make decisions based on "feelings".
Listen to your own stupid song, Don: "Get Over It."
Shut up and sing Henley.
Regards, Ivan
I regret to say that Henley is from Texas. He ought to know better.
Since when have concerts become debate forums?
We, the audience, have 2 other options: vote with our feet or spend our money elsewhere.
The thing that is surprising here is that entertainers are deliberately provoking a large percentage of their audience. You'd think that this would show up immediately on their bottom-line. My guess is that the liberals flock to this stuff while we conservatives are repelled. The net-effect for the entertainer might be a slight positive bump for an otherwise has-been performer.
Methinks the Ronstadt/Henley horsewhippings are a good sign for Bush. I'll admit Orange County is fairly conservative, but people from all over L.A. county see shows down there. It's completely unscientific, but if the public's response to Ronstadt and Henley is any indication, Bush is going to obliterate Kerry come November.
Damn the polls.
