The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Hey! I thought of one more important technique! It only works at night or in some really dark area like a parking garage, but for folks especially living behind enemy lines in a gun oppressed area get a SureFire Flashlight of at least two lithium cells in strength. Their 6P model is a fine choice but if you can afford bigger by all means, as long as you can carry it well. The beam of one of these lights is easily enough to temporarily blind/stun an attacker when he doesn't know it's coming. They are tail switch activated and some can be had with a bezel ring adjuster that is jagged and useful as a striking weapon. I'm never without mine, even when I'm armed. Maybe especially when I'm armed.

Key Iraqi oil pipeline is bombed
Compiled by Our Staff From Dispatches AFP, AP

KIRKUK, Iraq Saboteurs bombed a northern oil pipeline on Tuesday, halting oil exports to the Turkish port of Ceyhan, an official of the state-run oil company said.

"An improvised explosive device was placed close to a network of pipelines at the level of Fatta, west of Kirkuk, causing a big explosion and huge fires that damaged the main pipeline running to Ceyhan and stopped exports," Nasir Qassim, a logistics and security official with the Northern Oil Company, said in an interview with Agence France-Presse.

My Father in Law knew Foss when he was a marine pilot in the pacific. Pop had something like 17 air to air kills when he flew with Boyington and Blackburn.

"Careful. We're not supposed to talk about that. ; )"

I was just concerned about the environment. Hoping that a East Coast TM'r would keep a local eye on this development. After all, false bomb warnings for buses get reported here. ;0)

Thanks very much jm. That post is going to the printer and then to memory, mine, not the computers :-). This is excellent info, especially when flying.

Of course, I've gotta say it because it is such a part of my personal philosophy. If you are so inclined and laws permit, learn to shoot and get your concealed carry permit.

Below is a picture of the spire that just collapsed....if you look down from the top of the spire to the top of the arched doorway....the collapse is from just above that doorway. How could something like this "just happen". Still waiting for this story to show on the news web sites.

Construction: One of the most striking features of West Philadelphia's skyline is the spire of Christ Memorial Church at the corner of 43rd and Chestnut. The elegant gothic revival architecture is a testament to the grandeur of 19th century Philadelphia. The church is a complex of three contiguous buildings: Seminary, Sanctuary, and Parish Hall.

It's actually not all that uncommon to see big die offs like this, the fact that the story mentioned upwelling was strange though. Upwelling typically occurrs after hurricane or other windstorm passage (the winds cause the water to mix, cold water comes up from below). The east coast has been a bit stormy this summer, so it is still a possible cause.

I immediately thought about 'red tide' which is an algae bloom that kills off fish, but that doesn't seem too likely in this situation.

Suspicious Package Leads To Evacuation On South Side
Suitcase Reportedly Thrown From Moving Car

POSTED: 10:18 pm CDT August 3, 2004

CHICAGO -- Bomb and arson officers with the Chicago Police Department and a hazardous materials crew responded Tuesday night to a call of a suspicious suitcase that reportedly was thrown by three men out of a moving car on a South Side street.

A citizen notified the police of a "suspicious package" on the sidewalk at 31st Street and Indiana Avenue, Sgt. Kenneth Pang said. The witness reported seeing the black carry-on suitcase being tossed out the window of a car with three men inside.

About 13 district officers, along with bomb and arson officials, responded to the scene just before 8 p.m. and blocked off a two-block radius, Pang said. He added that standard police procedure is to secure a minimum of 2,000 yards around a suspicious package.

"We don't touch it ... we handle everything with caution," Pang said about the suitcase.

A Level 1 hazardous materials response was issued at 8:30 p.m. because the police "needed extra help" in securing area, fire department spokesman Dennis Gault said. The initial call came in at 7:50 p.m., he said.

The response sent two engines, two trucks, one squad, one hazardous incident team, one deputy district chief, one battalion chief, one safety officer, one ambulance and the command van. Residents were evacuated from the area as a precaution, police said.

By 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the hazardous materials response had been upgraded to a Level 2 response, and three ambulances were sent because bomb and arson officials found a container with wires similar to a bomb when they opened the suitcase, according to Pang. The upgraded response is "just standard operating procedure in case anything happens," he said.
