The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Police Secure Businesses on Terror Alert
NEW YORK - Police searched trucks, blocked streets and posted machine-gun toting officers outside financial landmarks Monday, a day after the government's chilling warning that terrorists might target the buildings with bombs.

I sure as hell hope our airline screeners (and any other security screeners) have been educated about these sorts of "innocuous" looking things.

Why? So they can take them from the likes of ExSoldier or Joe Foss?

They, airport screeners, tried to take Foss' Medal of Honor. They were lucky he did't beat them bloody with his cane. He died not long after that of an anuerism. He was a World War II Marine fighter ace, who won the Medal of Honor after shooting down 26 enemy planes. He helped found the South Dakota Air National Guard, and served in the Korean war. He was South Dakota governor starting in 1955. He was commissioner of the American Football League 1960 to 1966. He also hosted the television show "The American Sportsman" on ABC, and was president of the National Rifle Association from 1988-90.

You really want old men and little old ladies completely helpless?

Didn't the Paks capture him July 13th? This may be a good example of why his capture wasn't disclosed to the world for several days. It would have scared his bad buddies underground. I hope this story is the first of many that we get to hear about.

Runaway Barge Sinks in Mississippi River

JIM SUHR

Associated Press

ST. LOUIS - A runaway grain barge hit one of the Mississippi River's busiest crossings and sank, forcing the Coast Guard to close a two-mile stretch of the river Monday while the agency decided how to deal with the submerged vessel.

The barge was among 15 that broke away late Sunday from a towboat and floated down the river, with an unknown number hitting the Poplar Street Bridge, the Coast Guard said.

Highway officials later determined that the bridge, which carries three interstates across the river, was safe and it was never closed, officials said.

Five other towboats rounded up the remaining 14 barges, the Coast Guard said. There were no injuries.

The Coast Guard reopened the river to northbound traffic late Monday. Officials expect to allow southbound traffic to use the channel during daylight hours only on Tuesday.

By Monday morning, crews pinpointed the sunken barge on the Missouri side of the river and marked the location with a lighted orange-and-white buoy. It could take days for a salvage crew to set up a crane to retrieve the barge, Coast Guard Lt. Bill Clark said.

The Coast Guard sent test tows through the channel Monday to ensure that it was passable. The agency said only one tow at a time will be allowed to pass.

The Poplar Street Bridge is the largest in St. Louis and one of the nation's busiest Mississippi River crossings, carrying more than 120,000 vehicles a day.

I live in Miami but have family near Gainesville as well as many friends there. Many of my friends brought their kids home so I could give them firearms instruction. I assessed the capabilities and mindset before giving the class (which was free, I don't charge when there's a rapist killer on the loose and my friends are in danger) and if I felt they would be more of a danger to themselves, I'd recommend a stun device. Not "pepper spray" or "mace."

Danny Rolling is lucky he never met some of the folks I know in that area. He would have disappeared and then taken weeks to die in agony. Then he'd be nothing more than gatorbait and gas bubbles in the Florida Everglades.

"What to do if approached from behind "

I was taught for starters to jab into the person with elbow(other hand over fist pushing back)followed by a kick straight back (with high heels of course) and then slam down on the instep. Do this as rapid and as forcefully as you can.

Capitol Police step up security ... and how!

THE WASHINGTON POST

WASHINGTON — U.S. Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer has taken several aggressive steps in recent months to heighten security around the U.S. Capitol, including retraining officers to shoot a suspected suicide bomber in the head if other efforts to stop an attack fail.

Gainer’s decision Monday to close a major thoroughfare and impose 14 vehicle checkpoints on Capitol Hill was one piece of a much larger security strategy, which has included intensive training with Israeli counterterrorism experts and bomb technicians.

In addition, Gainer said he is urging congressional officials to create a “virtual fence” that would allow his officers to search any person who steps onto the Capitol grounds, a significant expansion of current policies on searching visitors.

Monday’s decision to restrict traffic drew criticism from city officials who said it would cause gridlock and send the wrong message to tourists and residents. That debate may foreshadow an even tenser exchange over how much to curtail public movement in the name of security.

“We are trying to present ourselves as the capital of the free world … and lead by example,” said Rep. James P. Moran Jr., D- Va. “To have the right to search anyone whenever they step on the Capitol grounds, when they don’t even try to enter a building, is overreaching.”

And now I'm going to take my beloved wife out for low carb ice cream. I'll catch y'all later.

Don't tell me you're doing Atkins too? And your wife is a quilter, like mine. She's the educator though, as is our younger daughter. I was informed today that I have to run up to Austin this weekend to help daughter set up her new classroom. She's in "in service" all this week and most of next, with open house next Thursday. Wife will do the design, and some of the needed sewing, I'll be there for the "high work" with what my wife calls my "gorilla arms". She said something about hanging curtains? (to remind you, wife is Chair of Teacher Ed program at Austin College in Sherman TX) Daughter taught at McKinney last year, but they closed her school, so she decided to break with North Texas and move to Austin (actually Round Rock schools.) The school is about 3 blocks from older daughter's house in Austin. She'll be teaching 5th grade math and science. The school is the Vietnamese bilingual school for the district. But they only have one bilingual classroom for each grade, except 4-5 which is a combined one. Both daughters live in Austin, but Round Rock schools.
