The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

Plane Grounded After Suspicious Substance Found

POSTED: 5:08 pm EDT August 3, 2004 MANCHESTER, N.H. -- A US Airways flight from Manchester to Washington, D.C., was grounded Tuesday afternoon after the plane's captain discovered a suspicious substance minutes before takeoff.

Pilot Finds Substance In Lavatory

Hazmat crews were brought in to investigate after the plane's captain called for an evacuation of Flight 3282. Four tests were performed on the substance, but all came back negative.

"It was the captain of the aircraft that found the substance in the lavatory," Manchester Airport Director Kevin Dillon said. "There was a passenger that was in the lavatory prior to that that we also had some discussions with."

That passenger and the other 50 people on the flight were booked on other flights out of the airport.

There was no word on what the substance was, and officials said more tests would be done at the state laboratories.

It translates as gibberish, but I think that they use evocative and poetic phrasing, so that it sounds better than plain English in their language. In a way, the Arabic language seems to have a certain hypnotic quality. And, qualities of magic spells.

Deep Sea Cold Spurs Fish Kill

WASHINGTON — Up and down the beach at Ocean City, Md., they washed ashore: dead fish, rotten and smelly, victims of what scientists believe was a sudden shift in the temperature of the ocean.

More than a million Atlantic croaker fish are believed to have died in recent days off the Maryland and Delaware coasts, and many of them have turned up on the beaches from Ocean City to Delaware’s Indian River, Maryland officials said.

The fish kill, which could well be the largest in Maryland’s recent history, showed no signs of a man-made cause, such as a toxic chemical spill or pollution-fed algae bloom, said Rich McIntire of the Maryland Department of the Environment.

Instead, officials believed the fish may have been killed by a natural phenomenon called an “upwelling,” a sudden surge of cold water from the bottom of the ocean.

I think you woefully underestimate yourself in one regard exsoldier.

You were obviously a fine military officer, and the US Army is a sadder place without you, for sure. You're a born leader with an incisive mind that grasps the world o warriors.

Many women and men misunderstand toughness. You dont. Let me explain my point.

Toughness is the ability to get yourself up every morning and go to work knowing you may not come home that night, while still being a good husband and father to your family.

Toughness is being gentle to your children, loving your wife, and having the kindness of Christ to your neighbors while retaining the ability to destroy your enemies in detail before they destroy your family and way of life.

Bravado is telling everyone how tough you are ad nauseum, and then running for the hills when confronted with danger, or being a backstabbing coward and selling out your comrades to save your skin.

The fiercest warriors I know are school teachers, brick masons, computer technicians or electricians who have never lost the "edge" even though they have long since given up combat arms and taken up plowshares.

We have a lot of people with a lot of different talents on this thread, but one thing I know is this:

Each of us is a warrior in their own way.

Irishman Shot Dead in His Riyadh Office

RIYADH, 4 August 2004
An Irishman was shot dead yesterday when armed men stormed into his office and began firing machine guns, Irish and Saudi officials said.

A spokeswoman for Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs said the man was killed at about 5 p.m.

Obviously our consular section (in Dublin) ... and our embassy in Riyadh are involved in the case and are liaising with the Saudi authorities, she said on condition of anonymity.

She would not give further details, including the man's name.

It was the second killing of an Irishman in the capital in two months.

A Saudi official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said the man was killed when at least two armed men stormed the office of the Saudi-owned Rocky for Trade and Construction and began shooting machine guns. Al-Arabiya satellite television said the slain Irishman was a 63-year-old engineer named Tony Christopher.

The channel said a gunman had burst into his office in the Al-Rawda neighborhood and shot him in the head and chest, apparently with a gun equipped with a silencer. (snipped)

A University of Washington computer-security expert detained last month by federal agents is the son of a radical Islamic dissident in England, who believes his son has been targeted by the U.S. government and the Saudi royal family.

Majid al-Massari, 34, a Saudi national and an employee of the UW School of Nursing, was arrested July 17 by agents from the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for investigation of immigration violations.

FBI agents with the Seattle Joint Terrorism Task Force seized computers from al-Massari's office and his University District home, according to federal sources. One source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said agents are translating hundreds of e-mails in Arabic between al-Massari and his father.

Bomb Threat Prompts Evacuation Of N.J. Bus

TENAFLY, N.J. -- A bomb threat on a bus in New Jersey turned out to be a fake on Tuesday.

Authorities received an anonymous call, prompting police to stop the N.J. Transit bus and evacuate its passengers.

About a dozen homes were also evacuated and a busy street was closed for about 90 minutes as authorities searched the vehicle.

No bomb was found, and people were allowed to return to their homes by about 5:30 pm.

The bus had left Port Authority in New York at about 3:50 p.m., heading to Dumont on the number 166 line.

Al Qaeda suspect reveals communication strategy

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The man arrested in Pakistan with documents that sparked this week's increased threat levels is a computer expert who helped Osama bin Laden communicate with his terror network, U.S. government sources told CNN.

U.S. officials have identified the suspect as Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan, but Pakistani officials said the man's identity could not be confirmed because he has used multiple aliases in the past.

U.S. sources said Khan told interrogators al Qaeda uses Web sites and e-mail addresses in Turkey, Nigeria and tribal areas of Pakistan to pass messages among themselves.

Couriers were often used to deliver computer discs, and Khan would then post the messages on Web sites, but only briefly, the sources said......

Majid al-Massari had been a regular guest on London-based anti-Saudi radio talk shows and posted regularly on Internet discussion groups, his father said.

Muhammad al-Massari acknowledges there may be other reasons for increased scrutiny of himself and his family. He acknowledged yesterday a long relationship with an al-Qaida sympathizer named Mustafa al-Ansari, who led an attack on a Saudi petrochemical plant in Yanbu in May that left two Americans, two Britons and an Australian dead. They were employees of a Houston firm.

He also said he was "acquainted" with Abdurahman Alamoudi, who pleaded guilty last week in Washington, D.C., to being involved in a Libyan-funded plot to assassinate Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz. Al-Massari denied any involvement in the scheme.
