Exclusive: Nancy Reagan Strongly Endorses George Bush

In a statement made Monday to NewsMax.com, Nancy Reagan said she was strongly endorsing President Bush's re-election and rejected a published Internet report that she was not backing his re-election.

Joanne Drake, the chief of staff for former President Ronald Reagan’s office in Los Angeles, said in a statement on behalf of the former first lady, “Mrs. Reagan supports President Bush’s re-election 150 percent.” Published reports have suggested that Mrs. Reagan was unhappy with President Bush for his opposition to taxpayer-funded stem cell research that kills human embryos, which Mrs. Reagan has supported after her husband’s long bout with Alzheimer’s disease.

Mrs. Reagan’s son Ron spoke last week at the Democratic National Convention. He indicated that his mother supported his speech and that she was unhappy with the Bush administration for its stand on embryonic stem cell research.

Ron Reagan gave an implicit endorsement to the Kerry-Edwards ticket, which supports taxpayer funding of that type of research, when he told his national audience, “Whatever else you do come Nov. 2, I urge you, please, cast a vote for embryonic stem cell research.”

Drake, however, noted in her statement on behalf of Mrs. Reagan, “I think everyone would understand that while she may not agree with the president on every issue, this campaign is more than just one issue – it’s about leadership, and she believes that President Bush is the right man for the job.”

Mrs. Reagan’s statement came on the heels of a report published Friday on the Web site capitolhillblue.com.

That story, headlined "Nancy Reagan to Bush: 'We Don't Support Your Re-Election,'" quoted a “spokesman” for Mrs. Reagan as telling the site, "Mrs. Reagan does not support President Bush’s re-election and neither do most members of the President’s family."

Drake also denied the Web site’s claim that Mrs. Reagan told Republican leaders she wanted nothing to do with the party or President Bush, or that she "went ballistic" when she learned the Bush campaign was test marketing ads that used Reagan’s photos and speeches in an effort to show he supported Bush and his re-election.

Capitolhillblue.com also claimed that Mrs. Reagan called Republican Party chief Ed Gillespie to demand the ads be destroyed.

“The quote that appeared in Capitol Hill Blue is incorrect,” Drake said on behalf of Mrs. Reagan. “Further, I do not know where the information came from [indicating that] the former first lady went ballistic when she read the Bush campaign was test marketing new ads. She did not speak to Ed Gillespie on the telephone and demand the ads be destroyed ...”

By endorsing President Bush’s re-election, Mrs. Reagan joins President Reagan’ elder son, Michael, who has already announced his strong support for the president's re-election. Michael will be speaking at the GOP convention in New York.

The president with Nancy Reagan.

Since he will, I assume, continue his gig at the GOP convention, I wonder how Ron Prescott will cover his step-brother's speech.

And Moveon and International A.N.S.W.E.R. Thank John McStain and his CFR bill with the 527 loophole conveniently written right in...probably at the order of his master, John Kerry.

>>>I feel that she owes the RNC ...

I'd love to see a video from Mrs. Reagan, but in all honestly, she doesn't owe anyone, anything! She stood with her husband and she stood with the GOP for 40 years. That's a long time to be in the political spotlight.

My point is that Nancy needs to make a statement if she is grateful saying so. I don't read Newsmax but from what I gather
they spin well, so does Bartcop.

Until Nancy's press people release this statement to ALL news media, it will have no relevancy or impact. Newsmax simply does not have the impact necessary to make this fly.

I don't imagine you have the observation skills to notice that Michael Reagan was pretty much pushed into the secondary line of family members during the funeral procedure.

Actually, I was at the final motorcade, not ten feet from the Reagans, and posted my observations about it over here.

Michael Reagan understands that he is not Nancy's son; he has his own mother. Though he loves Nancy dearly, he understands that Mrs. Reagan's bond is deeper and different with her own children than it is with him, and doesn't begrudge that at all. Read his autobiography if you doubt it.

He hasn't complained publicly but the slight was very visable.

I'm quite skeptical he felt slighted at all. Has he complained to you privately?

If not, how do you even know?

You mean Doug Thompson... (I did a little Googling and found this out)

Thomas Sowell is a nationally syndicated black conservative columnist famous for his economic knowledge. :-)

This is the most vile and the largest
conspired assault to defeat a Republican
POTUS we have ever endured in this nation.

Their assault confirms to me what I have
suspected and thought all along: our media
are anti-American. They're not patriots,
nor are they "merely" on the left side of
the political spectrum. They are full out
radical leftists who hate the America of
our Founders (or what remains of it).

I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds it offensifve in the extreme that you demand a statement of gratitude to the Republican party from her or anyone. In fact, it's as offensive as you comparing News Max - which you ADMIT you have not read - to a purile site like Bartcop. They have a couple of writes that I strongly disagree with, but in general they're pretty balanced and the articles are well researched...unlike Bartcop, which is pure, mindless venom.

Your reply is so correct and right, it needs to be repeated every 20 replies on this thread.

"This is the most vile and the largest

"Their assault confirms to me what I have

The most vile are the phoney conservatives who put this stuff out on their web sites and phoney news sites so the left wing mediots can run with it. Then, the left wing blog sites run this vile poison.

I don't get Fox News. How about letting me know if
Fox or CNN mention this press release. The proof should be in the pudding.
