I'll throw in one for you. Don Johnson starred in this in 1975...."Boy and His Dog".

He wanders around after a nuclear war, communicates telepathically with his dog! He finds the dog food and the dog sniffs out women for Don.

They run across an underground city where things have been preserved, as before war. The men are all sterile & can't make babies anymore....is Don up for this....you bet!

Tapeheads

Tim Robbins and John Cusack may be whacked out lefties, but this is one of the funniest most twisted movies I know of which no one else has ever heard of.

It has Devo singing Baby Doll in Swedish.

"I need production value...There's only one thing that adds real production value - tits and ass."

"Sorry guys. Brothers against drunk driving has been busting my ass. You've got to pass a sobriety test... Close your eyes... now recite the alphabet backwards skipping all the vowels and give the sign language for each letter as you pass by."

(And I used to be able to do that).

And I will never be able to hear the word "whatever" without snickering.

I don't even know if this ever made it to theatres or if it went direct to video.

Vanishing Point. And I mean the original, not the remake.

Barry Newman behind the wheel of a 1970 Dodge Challenger. Faith healers in the Nevada desert. Early Kim Carnes soundtrack. And of course, Cleavon Little working his DJ mojo from that radio station in Nowheresville, Colorado. What's not to like?

"This radio station was named Kowalski in honour of the last American hero to whom speed means freedom of the soul. The question is not when he's gonna stop But who is gonna stop him."

And of course. . .

"There goes the Challenger, being chased by the blue blue meanies on wheels. The vicious traffic squad cars are after our lone driver. The last American hero. The electric centaur. The demigod. The super driver of the golden west. 'Itvo nasty Nazi cars are close behind the beautiful lone driver. The police numbers are getting closer, closer, closer to our soul hero, in his soul mobile. Yeah baby, they're about to strike. They're gonna get him, smash him, rape the last beautiful free soul on this planet."

Classic!

Cult movies? You don't even WANT to get me started on this thread.

I was a Joe Bob Briggs board certified Drive-In Movie Critic.

I'll toss out some good movies to search out (all on DVD).

Cars:
Two Lane Blacktop (by my friend, Monte Hellman)
Pit Stop (by Jack Hill)

Commies:
Kiss Me Deadly (Mike Hammer film that irks the left)
Pickup On 52nd Street (Sam Pekinpah, his bonus interviews are also great).

Hellzapoppin' - Well it WAS released on DVD in Australia (Region 0 if you can play PAL video and many DVD players can). I think it is now out of print and don't look for any legit release in the future.

50s:
The Wanderers - The book was a good read and the movie is a decent approved adaptation (with a cameo by the author).

If you like the TV show "Iron Chef" check out "The God Of Cookery", a Shaolin Monk kung fu version of a cooking riches to rags to riches comedy. An import title but then so many good films are.

Head Trip:
The Saragossa Manuscript - Story within a story within a story. It is 3 hours long in Polish with subtitles (and black and white). Covers the Napoleonic wars and other eras.
Best moment comes when the stories bungee out of several levels of depth (different era/characters/actors) on the turn of a line of dialogue. If you can appreciate nonlinear storytelling, this is a joy.

Crazy man against all odds:
Much of Werner Herzog's product.
Lemme give you:
Fitzcaraldo (a man seeks to build an opera house in the Amazon jungle and has to move a steamboat over a mountain to make it possible).
Even Dwarves Started Small (midgets take over an insane asylum)
Little Dieter Needs To Fly (documentary - a German born Vietnam vet who escaped his captors makes a return visit).
