Does Teresa have dual citizenship?

Posted on 07/31/2004 12:05:09 PM PDT by CovenBuster

I am curious about Mrs. Kerry's citizenship. Is she a citizen of Mozambique as well as a citizen of America? Does anyone know off the top of their head? Thanks.

I might add that anyone who has "dual-citizenship" is committing fraud (in the U.S.).

That's not true. When you're naturalized, you renounce any allegiance to foreign powers and potentates. However, if the country of which you were previously a citizen doesn't consider this a renunciation, you remain a citizen of that country. I'm a naturalized American citizen, but as far as the Irish goverment is concerned I'm still Irish, and if for some reason I wanted to invoke my Irish citizenship, they'd recognize it.

She was born in colonial times, therefore if she has citizenship with any other country, it is likely to be Portugal. As Portugal is an ally in the War on Terror, this is not particularly offensive. If it was France, that would be another matter entirely.

I stand corrected. The U.S. wants one to be solely American, but we really have no control about what other countries do.

Ummm.. it was more of a rhetorical question, designed to make you think.

About what? I can think of 6 dozen reasons not to vote for Kerry, and his choice of spouse doesn't enter into any one of them. I think you worry too much.

Probably because that at the time the Constitution was written & ratified, women couldn't even vote.

No, probably because the President's choice of spouse is nobody's damned business but the President's.

Considering the amount of influence Teresa appears to have over John Kerry (for example, her prime time speech at the DNC), does this make him the Mozambique Candidate?

One of the radio shows here in Boston refers to Kerry as the Masschurian candidate. - Tom

Not true. If one is born in Panama, as an example, no matter the nationality of one's parents, one is a Panamanian forever. There is no office to where one can go and renounce one's citizenship

This is interesting. If one is required to renounce allegiancies to other countries in order to become a U.S. citizen, but one won't or can't, then perhaps that person can't become a U.S. Citizen??? (Just a thought.)

I can certainly think of a lot of reasons why not to vote for Kerry, but a lot of this politics stuff is beyond quite a lot of people. Having a foreigner occupying the White House however is something they do understand, and would think is wrong on a very basic level. They may well even think it's illegal.

You are correct. You might want to think about Mark Rich who is running around the world and avoiding U.S. extradition with 5 passports (his first was not U.S.). He is hiding in Europe. Why do we not null his passport? Why is Sorros (sp?) running around with a U.S. passport? He committed crimes before he was given his U.S. citizenship. Who the heck gave these crooks their passports? For one thing, Crooked Clinton gave Rich a free pass before he left office. I don't know under whom Sorros' U.S. citizenship was approved. That would be intersting.

These things I too find puzzling.

AS I've said earlier, I was wrong (about fraud). My later posts to/from you have clairified my position somewhat.

But I'm curious. How did you become a U.S. citizen without renouncing your other citizenship (not challenging you, just curious).

The post with the information about the Tides Foundation is what needs focusing on. Note the burying of this information in the press especially during the convention. This is very disturbing for a first lady to be involved in...much more than if she is a citizen..although there may be a tie in.

A president must be American-born.

I mean it in the constitutional sense, which I take to include territories, or with assignments in "American" possessions, from parents in other countries, etc., and such.

THK is a dangerous woman and not to be trusted. She will have access through her husband's conversation to very classified, sensitive information. She is an internationalist and we are indeed in trouble if she gets the keys to the White House.

Yes! And I would like to see her tax returns for the last five(5) years!?!

Please, I did not mean to offend although I think I did, and I apologize. Speaking for myself, I get a tad passionate about these things. Inspite that I am bi-national (it was not my choice), I am a passionate conservative American, and a pox on anybody otherwise. Because I have dual citizenship does not make me less of a passionate conservative American

I might add that anyone who has "dual-citizenship" is committing fraud (in the U.S.)

I was born in Seville Spain in 1960 on an Air Force base. I am told I had dual citizenship with US and Spain until I was 21. After that age Spain didn't recognize my citizenship. Realistically though I doubt Franco ever recognized it either (lol). I don't think I ever committed fraud.

Ireland recently began granting citizenship to anyone who could trace their Irish ancestry back two generations. I know a woman who did this mainly so she could travel on a non-US passport. She felt safer hiding her citizenship in Europe.
