Believe' tour off to a bumpy start(Kerry's 21-state trip gets a mixed reception during its 1st day)

The Democratic presidential ticket of John Kerry and John Edwards worked Friday to spread the energy, beginning a national bus tour hours after the Boston convention.

Kerry, whose convention speech emphasized national security and foreign policy, said in an interview with The Associated Press that he would put Osama bin Laden on trial in U.S. courts.

That would ensure the "fastest, surest route" to a murder conviction if the terrorist mastermind is captured while he is president, Kerry said.

"I want him tried for murder in New York City, and in Virginia and in Pennsylvania," where planes hijacked by al-Qaida operatives crashed Sept. 11, 2001, he said.

His "Believe in America" road tour got off to a bumpy start Friday.

A sparse crowd showed up at a morning rally in Boston to begin the 21-state tour. On board were the Kerry family, the Edwards family and an entourage.

Kerry admitted he was dragging. "I am longing to have my head hit a pillow," he said.

Highways were blocked from Boston to Scranton as the campaign's 10 buses and support vehicles lumbered westward.

In Newburg, N.Y., they made an unscheduled stop to celebrate John and Elizabeth Edwards' 27th anniversary.

The couple observed their anniversary tradition of a meal at Wendy's, a nod to their early married days when it was all they could afford.

Kerry joined them inside and spied a table of Marines. But when he struck up a conversation, the Marines answered tersely and expressed irritation.

"He imposed on us and I disagree with him coming over here to shake our hands," said one, who did not give his name.

Later, at a stop in Harrisburg, Pa., Edwards turned his sights on Bush, who had criticized Kerry. "Today, the president went out and spoke for the first time since John spoke (at the convention), and here we go again," Edwards said. "The same old thing, relentless negative attacks on John Kerry.

"They are trying to take this campaign for the highest office in the land down the lowest possible road."

I wonder if he accused them of being war criminals, as all he would be doing is expressing the views of his base.

"That would ensure the "fastest, surest route" to a murder conviction a complete media circus along the likes of an OJ trial where Johnny Cochran, et al get an innocent verdict for Osama if the terrorist mastermind is captured while he is president, Kerry said. "

Kerry served in Vietna? I didn't know that! I wonder why he never mentions it?

Kerry...said in an interview with The Associated Press that he would put Osama bin Laden on trial in U.S. courts

How about if we put Kerry on trial before military tribunal for treason and war crimes.

We should see Kennedy on trial in the U.S. Courts for the murder of Mary Jo Kopekne.

When the Democrat Propaganda Machine (otherwise known as "the mainstream newsmedia" or ABCNBCCBSCNNTimeNYTWPostLATimesEtc) gets through with it, the Kerry/Edwards campaign will look like Leni Riefenstahl's vision of the Second Coming.

Resistance to the propaganda will be a measure of American steadfastness.

Be strong, Americans. The fate of the world depends upon it.

LOL!

The Marine looks like he's calling up every fiber of his being to stop himself from decking the pompous creep. Now that's what I call discipline.

As usual, the finger-pointer is oblivious to how others perceive him and is looking for another photo-op.

If I said what I really think about Kerry, I'd be banned.

No way I'm going through this election cycle without FR!

Another plagerized line. This guy is a total fake.

Did he tell them he was a vietnam war hero with 3 purple hearts? Maybe that would have made them more interested in talking with Kerry.

Actually, if you look at the Marine's hand, he is holding it just as one should when at attention. He is not making a fist. He looks overall to be standing at a position of attention. This is just something military people do automatically. As a Senator, Kerry outranks the Marine. /(Gag,puke,choke)/ The Marine wasn't threatening in any way with his body language. His face, however, says it all! I still think he wanted to punch Kerry, though. Nik

I saw the same thing. I'll bet only Marine discipline kept him from punching him in the throat.

Kerry is an embarassment to the military. You can't spend decades trying to destroy it then convince people you support it at election time.

I wish I were able to actually hear the exchange between the marine and Kerry. I wonder if he mentioned he voted for the 87 million before he voted against it and then said because it wasn't really for the military??

Wonderful response, Chieftain. I ran across the following story at snopes.com. The status in undetermined as yet, but I suspect it will be proven true. I enjoyed it immensely and hope you do as well:

The following was forwarded to me from one of my old Navy buddies who got it from an aviator friend on the carrier Abraham Lincoln. The email below explains briefly the procedure of a plane approaching a carrier for landing.

The pilot is asked by the air controller to "call the ball".

For those not familiar with naval aviation lingo. There is a visual aid used on carriers to let pilots know if they are on the proper glide slope to land on the deck. The part that moves up and down depending on how you're doing on the glide slope looks like a ball or "meat ball". The fact that you have a visual on the approach aid dictates a call to the roller on the ship.

The President's recent approach to the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln resulted in the following: In this case the standard response from the pilot of plane carrying the President would have been "Lincoln, Navy One, 12,500 lbs, Roger Ball" meaning I have the ball in sight and am on glide path (for a safe landing — the weight is given for setting the correct braking tension of the arresting gear cables).

No wonder the military appreciates and likes the man! The President's recent approach to the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln resulted in the following:

"Navy One" was on final approach for trap aboard CVN ABRAHAM LINCOLN . . . the President making the radio call said:

"Lincoln, Navy One, 12,500 lbs, I have the balls,"

His call brought down the house on the carrier.
