HAS SANDY BERGER BEEN CLEARED?

Posted on 07/30/2004 3:19:48 AM PDT by itsinthebag

I just heard on the radio news that Sandy Berger has been cleared of any wrongdoing. Apparently the National Archives is saying that all documents have been accounted for. Has anyone else heard this? And no, this should not be posted under humor! I'm serious, I really did hear this on the morning news just now. WMAL 6:30 here in Washington, D.C., the Fred Gandy Show.

The thefts (along with Gorelicks exclusion from witnesses examined)
proves the '911 "Report"' has the worth of .... The New York Times.

Useful only for the wrapping fish.

Some people are looking for a reason not to vote Bush.

This is THE most important election of my life, and I DO NOT want to suffer through a kerry presidency. He is more dangerous than clintbilly.

The NA's former head also had something to do with presidential libraries, too.

Yes, he did - I don't recall exactly what, though. However, I believe he was the one who had to call the head of the Clinton library to get additional copies of the documents (perhaps even the originals) which were then marked and used in the sting.

don't be discouraged. Even though they say he's cleared, there may be other matters being investigated. And the DOJ doesn't want to leak info about active investigations.

If he's been cleared, is it any surprise?

We can all thank the 'new tone'.

Bush 2004! Whoopdedoo. < /sarcasm>

There were some people that Bush could have replaced, that is, appointees not protected by civil service rules, but as part of the dread "New Tone," he didn't do so. I think this has come back to haunt him on more than one occasion - remember, no good deed goes unpunished!

So if I rob a bank, but return the money if caught by the police, I can get away with it?

"Sandy Berger is cleared of withholding material from the 9/11 commission reports the Wall Street Journal."

Totally incredible!!!

I can already hear the lib apologist's response.

"This is just another trumped up charge from the "Republican Attack Machine". Sandy Berger was already cleared of these charges by the 9/11 Commission, the same Commission whose findings were endorsed by nonother than George Bush. This is just another baseless partisan attack on the eve of the election."

Why is this so?

What are your thoughts on President Hillary?

Cleared? LOL.

His very own words convict him of violating the law on numerous occasions.

Remember that, no matter what else you hear. Mr Berger has already ADMITTED to removing documents and hand written notes from the NAtional Archive, both of which are against the law.

Read the headline again. He was only cleared as far as what he provided to the 9-11 commission....The same thing that Gorelick said..."We got everything we wanted"

Which is the same as saying..."We got the truth, but not the WHOLE truth".

It sounds like a whitewash. Can't trust anyone who lives or works in DC.

Wasn't just Toon's library. I believe he was responsible for issues dealing with Ford's and 41's, too. Heaven only knows what's been done where. The only good news news is that if someone tries to make headlines with the aid of something they claim they ran across in a presidential library or the NA...HA!

Just read in the WSJ: He's been cleared, and the Archives now says that he took no original documents. Very strange in view of the fact that he admitted he had.

My thoughts about a hillary! presidency are the same - she's more dangerous than her husband.

She and kerry are both dedicated to furthering their way-left agenda; clintbilly was more interested in letting the good times roll.

Yes, he sold us out to China, weakened the military, and all the rest of his treasonous legacy. But his pales in comparison to what either of these two leftists would do.

Here's part of it. Won't print the whole thing b/c of the excerpt policy:

Officials looking into the removal of classified documents from the National Archives by former Clinton National Security Adviser Samuel Berger say no original materials are missing and nothing Mr. Berger reviewed was withheld from the commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

Several prominent Republicans, including House Speaker Dennis Hastert and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, have voiced suspicion that when Mr. Berger was preparing materials for the 9/11 Commission on the Clinton administration's antiterror actions, he may have removed documents that were potentially damaging to the former president's record.

The conclusion by archives officials and others would seem to lay to rest the issue of whether any information was permanently destroyed or withheld from the commission.

Archives spokeswoman Susan Cooper said officials there "are confident that there aren't any original documents missing in relation to this case." She said in most cases, Mr. Berger was given photocopies to review, and that in any event officials have accounted for all originals to which he had access.

That included all drafts of a so-called after-action report prepared by the White House and federal agencies in 2000 after the investigation into a foiled bombing plot aimed at the Millennium celebrations. That report and earlier drafts are at the center of allegations that Mr. Berger might have permanently removed some records from the archives. Some of the allegations have related to the possibility that drafts with handwritten notes on them may have disappeared, but Ms. Cooper said archives staff are confident those documents aren't missing either.

Daniel Marcus, general counsel of the 9/11 Commission, said the panel had been assured twice by the Justice Department that no originals were missing and that all of the material Mr. Berger had access to had been turned over to the commission. "We are told that the Justice Department is satisfied that we've seen everything that the archives saw," and "nothing was missing," he said....

See, the archives just made lots of photocopies of the documents so everyone could have some to review, take home, destroy or do whatever else they want with them. So let's all moveon.org with and stop trying to divide the nation with politically motivated witch hunts.

The WSJ? Cleared by whom? The NA? Since when does the NA conduct criminal investigations? The NA can't clear him of a dang thing.
