But enough about that. I had been wondering for days leading up to Reagan's speech yesterday just why the Dems seem to be hitting stem-cell research so hard as a campaign issue. Indeed, they've been doing so since Ronaldus Magnus' funeral, when the Ron Sr. - Ron Jr. rift first began to receive serious public attention. Well, the slam job that Ron Reagan Jr. did on those whose "theological views will harm the rest of us" put everything into place.
Stem cell research is their Trojan horse for maintaining abortion through means of a back door.
Let's face it, despite their public bravado, the Democrats are very, very scared about the abortion issue. They've tied themselves inextricably to the pro-abortion philosophy and groups. Yet, the trends among the American public have been towards increased opposition to abortion in general, stronger opposition to partial birth abortion, and an increase in people describing themselves as "pro-life". The country is now pretty much evenly split on the issue (obvious even despite the often slanted questions used by news organisations to try and give the appearance of greater public support for abortion), which is a huge difference from the situation when abortion became legal in 1973, and was generally support by something like 2/3 of the population.....

The title, coupled with the Ron Jr. name sounds like the title of a gay S&M movie.
Abortion is not going to go away.
Ping
Neither is rape or murder.
Or crime of any sort...I guess if we put radical mullahs in charge, then abortion would go away, but I'm not for that either.
suggest you rephrase the question..if we are successful in reducing the annual numner of abortions in this country from say, 1,000,000 down to 250,000, do we rejoice in the 750,000 innocent lives saved..or be paralyzed at the thought of the 250,000 tragic deaths that still occur..?
They don't need the back door. The courts have given them the front door.
We wouldn't need abortion for population control then. We'd have genocide!!!!
The dream of the abortion industry is to be able to tell women that they are "doing a good and honorable thing, in fact an altruistic thing, by having an abortion". The time will come when women having abortions will think they are "giving" something back to society - if it keeps going like it is.
We're Not Sorry Charlie (Abortion Pride)
"I had an abortion," thought Beninato, a 37-year-old customer-service rep in Richmond, Virginia, "and I'm glad I did. Someone should put up a website for women who had abortions and don't regret it."
I have a problem with this stem cell research.
Lets assume that research will show that stem cells can cure a really serious disease. How long will it be before a woman suffering from this disease gets pregnant, aborts in the third trimester and "harvest" the much needed stem cells?
Ugh. What a reprehensible woman!
You may rejoice or be paralysed. I don't do either.
Cannibalism, slavery, and human sacrifice to all intents and purposes has "gone away" in the western world. The people who engage in these acts are now seen as deviants that should be captured and kept out of society.
There was no need for "radical mullahs" in order for society to realize these actions were abhorrent. The same future could befall abortion.
No, there are so many good reasons for it.

Why the drop after 1960? (in deaths of women from illegal abortions)
The reasons were new and better antibiotics, better surgery and the establishment of intensive care units in hospitals. This was in the face of a rising population. Between 1967 and 1970 sixteen states legalized abortion. In most it was limited, only for rape, incest and severe fetal handicap (life of mother was legal in all states). There were two big exceptions California in 1967, and New York in 1970 allowed abortion on demand. Now look at the chart carefully.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Abortion Statistics - Decision to Have an Abortion (U.S.)
· 25.5% of women deciding to have an abortion want to postpone childbearing
· 21.3% of women cannot afford a baby
· 14.1% of women have a relationship issue or their partner does not want a child
· 12.2% of women are too young (their parents or others object to the pregnancy)
· 10.8% of women feel a child will disrupt their education or career
· 7.9% of women want no (more) children
· 3.3% of women have an abortion due to a risk to fetal health
2.8% of women have an abortion due to a risk to maternal health
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So how many womens lives have been saved by abortion?
Only about 3% of abortions since 1972 were reported to be due to a risk to maternal health. A reasonable person would recognize that not all of those cases represent a lethal risk. But lets say they did. That means that nearly 45 million fetuses were butchered to save the lives of about 1.3 million women. Or put another way; 35 babies are killed to save each woman.
Abortion was legal in all 50 states prior to Roe v. Wade in cases of danger to the life of the woman.
You misunderstood...i wasn't being cynical, nor argumentative..just responding to your comment that "abortion will lawys bee with us"..I didn't know what you meant by it..it sounded that becuase you felt that way, therfore any attempt to curtail it was fruitless..
We'll just have to wait and see.
Just my response to the title story.
"I had an Abortion" - Pride T-shirts Available from Planned Parenthood
It is not possible to say that there isn't an agenda behind embryonic stem cell research and the abortion industry.
OK...FYI..we're expecting our first grandson OCT 1..my refrigerator is covered with the sonograms...just awesome...I stand there in awe...can't wait..so, pardon my slightly elevated interest in the subject..regards.
