Gingrich on 7/27 Hannity and Colmes
Vanity ^ | 7/28/04` | ICX

I was wondering if anybody else caught Newt Gingrich's VICIOUS smackdown of Alan Colmes last night during H&C's DNC coverage. Newt EMBARASSED Colmes following Howard Dean's speech last night in one of the greatest TV segments I've ever seen, and I would appreciate if anyone could provide me with links to a transcript.

Newt was awesome - I caught the rerun last night. He was informed, well-spoken, and came across with a solid message.

His research was first-rate, I would like to see a transcript as well.

It looked to be a standard interview at first - Gingrich was parroting the obvious RNC talking points about the Dems shift to the far left, citing their choice of speakers (Hillary, Bill, Gore, Dean, Kerry) as evidence. Colmes responded by saying that by not mentioning Bill Richardson Lieberman Dem that Gingrich was 'marginalizing' the appeal of the party. At this point, it became apparent that Gingrich was setting Colmes up - his response, and I'm paraphrasing from memory, went something like:

"The speakers I cited include the former First Lady and junior Senator from New York, the former President of the United States, the former Senator and VP, a sitting senior Senator and candidate for the Presidency, and a slightly insane former governor. How exactly am I 'marginalizing' anything?" I'll probably look foolish if somebody can find a transcript, but this was the gist of his comments and I'm really, really hung over.

It was obvious that Gingrich had (brilliantly) anticipated Colmes' response to his comments - talking points to refute talking points - and unloaded on him as soon as Colmes walked into the trap. I didn't do Gingrich any justice by paraphrasing his comments, trust me. I've never, EVER seen a liberal stunned into silence the way Colmes was by Gingrich last night - Hannity seemed to appreciate the situation and rushed to rescue Colmes, cutting quickly to commercial.

I saw it but couldn't paraphrase it either. Newt is the best at what he does...and his command of the English language is so perfect, you begin to wonder where you went to school and what kind of english was taught. I would love a link to what was said also. It was what I call DELICIOUS CONSERVATIVE!! Only as Newt can do!!

I'm not a Gingrich fan, but recently he has been pretty good with interviews.

Colmes reminds me of a trained talking parot. He has committed the libtalkingpoints to memory and can recite them on all occasions.

It was ridiculous, wasn't it? Newt literally made Colmes look like a child.

He also has a good understanding of history - in my opinion, the main failing of liberals. To justify their programs, they have to rewrite it. Newt doesn't let them get by with that.

Newt was brilliant last night.

I saw it, and enjoyed it immensely! Say what you want about Alan Colmes, he rarely gets his head handed to him like he did last night.

Among liberal commentators, Colmes is the only one I have ever gotten a civilized response from via email.

That sounds pretty much like what I saw.

I must say Colmes looked especially drawn and birdlike, and was rather more defensive than I would have expected him to be on such home turf.

Yup, Newt took Colmes apart. I rarely agree with anything Colmes says, but I respect him for taking the heat like he does nearly everyday. He handles it better than an other liberal I have seen. But Newt was just too much for him last night. Colmes looked like he wanted to cry.

Hannity has had his bad days too though....then I want to cry!
