A group calling itself the European branch of al Qaeda threatened to turn Australia and Italy into hellish "pools of blood" if the two nations did not withdraw their troops from Iraq, while a growing wave of kidnappings swept the country yesterday.

I'm reminded of the poem on KangarooJacqui's page - which was in response to the Bali bombings:
AN AUSSIE POEM (Murder on the dancefloor)
You hurt us bombing Bali, but we can take the pain,
But if you think you'll beat us, you can think a-bloody-gain
We battled at Gallipoli and we fought the bloody hun
Of all the arseholes we've had to face, you're just another one
You won't get your hands dirty, you won't fire a gun
Whenever danger threatens you just pack your gear and run
You brainwash innocent children to do your evil deeds
Careful not to let them know just where it really leads
You get them to believe all your bigotry and lying
Until they cannot see that there's no glory in their dying
Now we'd like to pose a question, answer if you can
Where does your holy book tell you to kill your fellow man?
Now listen hard and listen well, we're giving you the word
You're never gonna beat us, you spineless bloody turd
You'd never face us personally, you haven't got the guts
You know that if you ever did we'd have your bloody nuts
Our spirit is unbroken, and our heads are still unbowed
We sure as hell aren't scared of you and your gutless crowd
So get your act together -- you'll never win because
What you're really up against is the spirit that is OZ
Regards, Ivan

In related news, the optimistic John Kerry revealed that he once served in Vietnam, and Bush didn't.

So what are the Aussies going to do? Throw rocks at them?Australia is well armed and has a strong military - they are one of the premier members in the Allies. As such, they'll shoot them dead.
Any questions?

"We call upon [Australia] to leave Iraq before your country turns to pools of blood," the group said. "We will shake the earth under your feet as we did in Indonesia, and lines of car bombs will not cease, God willing."
That's funny Ivan, I was just about to post that poem myself. But to put it in American vernacular, I think Australia's response to this will be:
"Yeah? Bring it on, ****suckers..."

...ignorance of the situation or intoxication, maybe?
Our western culture countries were flooded with divisive propaganda from the left for a few decades, and our generation ("Baby Boomers" here in the USA) went a little soft in both countries. But Australia is coming around to consciousness nicely, and I'm proud of all who are making it happen. Hugs!

Damn straight. This former US Marine had the privledge to serve with Aussie troops. They are good to go.

Why are Tikrit and Fallujah still there, anyway? A little exemplary Dresden action would go a long way. They are not going to like us,anyway, so why not just make them fear the sky?
But maybe I am just cranky this morning; I'll try later after some coffee. I am still disgusted and PO'd about the Spanish and Philippine surrender.

So what are the Aussies going to do? Throw rocks at them?Your ignorance is appalling ... the Aussies have a very viable and potent military ... they also have a "kick ass" attitude to go along with it.

Semper Fi! I had the priviledge of meeting some US marines once - gentlemen (and ladies) one and all - a lot like the good servicepeople at my local air base, RAAF Amberley, where the Marines were staying as US/Australia joint military exercises were going on.
I salute you and yours, and thankyou for your alliance with my country.

Cranky you may be, sir, but your approach to waging war needs a hearing in DC.

Thankyou. Your brief post says it all.
(By the way, I was not the author of the poem Ivan posted from my profile in post #1... but I wish I had been!)

I daresay you are not alone in those sentiments stated in your post (heck, I know you're not... I feel the exact same way!) and that the rest of us are being somewhat stronger in our language about the behaviour of the Spaniards and Filipinos (at least off the board.) It's the other end of the day here, and I don't have the excuse of too little coffee or too many "adult beverages"... so I'd say your post has a great deal of merit.
Cheers, KaJac

I daresay you are not alone in those sentiments stated in your post (heck, I know you're not... I feel the exact same way!) Not surprising, as most of the Aussies I have met here would rather fight than...err..anything..youknow.
Is fighting really an expression of affection Down Under? :-)
