SECURITY was stepped up to protect Tour de France race leader Lance Armstrong after the American received threats before the Alpe d'Huez stage midweek, race director Jean-Marie Leblanc revealed today.
"There were threats against Lance Armstrong and we took these into account," said Leblanc, without giving details of the threats.

Sorry! I am a little embarrassed. Yes, I thought I'd remembered it correctly.
I've been debating whether the necklace is a cross or the shape of Texas...I haven't seen any camera shots close in enough to know.

He does wear a cross on his neck (even though he claims to be a non-believer).
It is a cross. I saw it clearly in another shot.

Daniel? Daniel who? Would you happen to be referring to Joseph from the Old Testament?
Nice one!
Thanks. It must've been hanging at a weird angle a couple times when I saw it.
Yeah it's shaped like the old "galic"??monestary crosses back in the middle ages-where the ends are bigger than the middle.
I believe you'll find that what Armstrong wears around his neck is a pendant that is shaped partially as cross and partially as an outline of the state of Texas.
Yes, I was......slip of the tongue.
And know we know..the rest of the story! (thanks)

I've heard that too but I read a story several years ago in a cycle magazine who interviewed Lance and it read that he did believe in God.
Hey France - you mess with Lance and we'll Tomahawk the Louvre.
Frickin weasels.

The Necklace
- 7/26 - We've received quite a few emails asking about Lance's necklace, what it was etc. so we asked Kristin (as Lance is still a tad busy these days) - and the story is even more touching than we expected: "The cross is from Stacy Pounds - she was Lance's agent's admin assistant and who died of lung cancer in 1997 - she asked Lance to wear it. Stacy wore a matching cross necklace while she was sick... (Lance said in 1997 "Stacy was like a mother to me.") The state of TX speaks for itself. He used to have a tiny tiny heart on there from me as well, but it fell off somewhere on the long road!" - and now you know.
Sounds like a good luck cross as well! He's been wearing it a long time..

We have the class - they have the envy.
