Explosive Device Shatters North End Window Federal Investigators Called To Scene
POSTED: 9:53 am EDT July 23, 2004 UPDATED: 12:23 pm EDT July 23, 2004
BOSTON -- With the Democratic Convention right around the corner, emergency responders got an early test Friday in Boston's North End when a small explosion in the Copps Hill cemetery gave neighbors quite a scare.
NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that the explosion occurred at about 8 a.m. in the graveyard near Snow Hill Street. It shattered a window in the Michael Angelo building, which is housing for the elderly.
"It sounded like a bomb. A real bomb," said Theresa Delelalio, 92.
"We saw the second plane hit, and honestly, when I came out here and I saw the bomb squad and everybody out here, it kind of brought back a bad memory to me. It's quite frightening when something like this happens,"
No one was injured, but Boston Police Department's bomb squad and federal investigators were called to the scene.
"With things going on, the convention and what have you, you have to be concerned. I mean is it going to be like this all week?" neighbor Michael Magner said.
Police said that the explosion was most likely kids throwing firecrackers that could have been stuffed in a bottle.
"People have to understand that since 9-11, the world has changed. This isn't funny. If it was kids putting firecrackers in a bottle for a joke -- it is not a joke," resident Susan Weinstein said.
Woopie blow up?
I love that word you used. Can I borrow it for future use?
By all means, go for it.
*BUMP*! You win the prize for being the first to guess correctly.
What a drama queen.
That was great! ;)
Ah, who cares, the threat of terrorism has been exaggerated, John Kerry told me so.
A Graveyard, hmmm, must be the Democrats trying to wake the dead for the vote again.
Now I need a new cup of coffee and a rag for the monitor!
No, it was Cheney/Halliburton who framed Bush in an attempt to take over the Presidency and declare martial law. Really - Ms. Cleo told me!
You may be on to something there!
"Expressing that certain sense of shellshock from 9/11."
Maybe this seems silly to some people, but for me everytime something bad and unexpected happens I start wondering "Is it terrorism?" because I will never forget one of my co-workers watching the assault on the WTC right accross the Hudson river and saying after the second plane "It's terrorism." I'll never understand how he was able to think so clearly at the moment. Everybody else was just hysterical and completely confused.
I believe she is saying that they witnessed the second plane hit the twin towers on 9/11 on television.
At 8 AM In the Morning???
Surrrrrrrrrrrrre
We have a winner!
Just the DNC trying to dig up a few more votes for Skerry.
Very poor writing. It should have said, "We were witness to the second plane that hit the WTC on 9-11, and this ......."

***we saw the second plane hit..."??? ***
look at what they said.
They saw the second plane hit in 2001.
This explosion brought back bad memories of that day and a fear something like that may have happened again.
