Bush Urges Blacks to Consider What Dems Have Done for Them Lately
By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Morning Editor July 23, 2004
(CNSNews.com) - President Bush came right out and asked African-Americans for their vote on Friday. In his address to the National Urban League, Bush said he understands that the "Republican Party's got a lot of work to do." And he urged Democratic voters to consider some questions.
"Does the Democratic Party take African-American voters for granted?" It's a fair question, Bush said. Do Democrats earn your vote and deserve it, he asked?

Good question - since supply and demand is now broken and the workforce has no bargaining position, they invest in lower wage jobs and bust the workforce down to the level of third world countries through creation of part time, minimum wage paying jobs.. Hmm, curiously similar to what we are seeing now. No more supply and demand means Company rule. The employee no longer has bargaining power of any kind nor does supply of labor work in favor of the employee. IE checks and balances of the old system no longer exist and the public is being bs'ed into a system that they have no control over or say in. In prep for a one world government presumeably where the same will be true with regard to their presumed future rulers..

Watch the speech here.
Anyone can ingest an elephant if they take small bites at a time... his speech gave them a great taste ;-)
Amen.
$710.96... The price of freedom.
"What's sending our jobs overseas is the license to do it granted by Nafta along with the greed of those that can do it. Greed and license. Ya'll just blame it on regulation. When it comes down to it, if you strip all the regulation and the companies stopped paying 5% tax and payed none, they'd still outsource because they can pay a minor fraction of the wages they pay here and exploit workers overseas in ways Americans would never stand for.
My job is non-union labor - as are most of the jobs going overseas. The tax code is screwed up. But, Companies have gotten tax break after tax break to stay in local communities and still bailed. You guys are so stuck on your talking points that you can't deal with the truth. You don't know what it is. These people out here on the street do."
***
What about your talking points? What good does it do to keep a job here if the cost of doing so raises the price of the goods so high that you STILL can't afford it? Look at Japan where a canteloupe costs $40. But at least they're not outsourcing...right?
Who exactly is paying only 5% in taxes?
Enough with the Buchananite/Big Labor hooey. The people who work in manufacturing jobs should not take the attitude that the company exists to keep them employed. They exist to make money, the very same reason the employees go to work at a given company -- TO MAKE MONEY. Are the employees greedy too?
Assuming so many mfg jobs are headed overseas, perhaps those who work in mfg should start making preparations for a new line of work in the service sector. Set aside a little dough each week and go to night school. I did. You have to roll with the punches instead of standing completely still and waiting for the gov't to pass a law to keep us in our dead-end jobs. Adapt/improvise/overcome -- do NOT whine...
Yes I understand that. That is why I said "significant". Frankly, I doubt he will accomplish that in this election. As I said before the greatest possible in-road Republicans have with the AA community is that they are very pragmatic. Republicans tend to be more conservative, and therefore more pragmatic.
However the AA community is very conspiratorial. That is understandable if you look at their history. If you remove the idea that the damage leftist policy has done in their community was deliberate, you would have to admit that until 30 years ago our society was hostile to them. They are always looking for Bull Connor and the KKK. Who can blame them. Republicans, fair or not, have been tagged with that label.
That is pretty much the entire basis of their loyalty to the Democrats... they are not Republicans. It simply doesn't matter what Republicans do, they are seen as racists. Any evidence to the contrary will be seen as an an aberration. It is simple marketing. Once a popular perception takes hold, it cannot be removed, it can only be cast in a new light. That will take years.
The most effective short term tactic to wrest this voting block from the left would be to attack the left from within the democrat party. Imagine the possibilities of a democrat conservative attacking the left. He couldn't be a racist, or for the rich, he is a democrat! Because I have a news flash for you, the AA community hates the left too!
And is it so hard to imagine a conservative running as a democrat? Because I have some more news for you. The same questions Bush asked the AA community about the problems of giving their loyalty to a single party applies to conservatives as well. Conservatives are the AAs of the Republican party.
Is it good for conservatives?
"Good question - since supply and demand is now broken"
What? Explain that one.

"...and the workforce has no bargaining position..."
False. More on that later.
***
"...they invest in lower wage jobs and bust the workforce down to the level of third world countries through creation of part time, minimum wage paying jobs."
They couldn't do that without the law of supply and demand permitting them to do so.
***
"Hmm, curiously similar to what we are seeing now. No more supply and demand means Company rule."
Again, please explain. How has the law of supply and demand been repealed?

"The employee no longer has bargaining power of any kind nor does supply of labor work in favor of the employee. IE checks and balances of the old system no longer exist and the public is being bs'ed into a system that they have no control over or say in."
Absolutely false. Any employee that is valuable to a company has tons of bargaining power. Develop your skills to a point where it is worth not only keeping you but paying you even more. I'm just a clerical worker but I'm good enough at what I do that I have had employers in bidding wars over me. This would not be the case if I spent all my time trying to do the minimum to get by and acting as if I'm doing the company a favor by showing up two days in a row. THIS IS THE DIRTY LITTLE SECRET THE BUCHANANITES AND LABOR GOONS DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW: PEOPLE THESE DAYS ARE SO SLIPSHOD ABOUT THEIR WORK ETHIC, THEIR SKILLS (ESPECIALLY IN CLERICAL) SO CRUMMY SINCE THEY DON'T TEACH ANYMORE IN SCHOOLS, THAT ANYONE WHO SHOWS UP ON TIME EVERY DAY AND GETS THE WORK OUT QUICKLY AND ACCURATELY CAN JUST ABOUT NAME THEIR PRICE.

BLACK HELICOPTER ALERT!
LOL someone else said that a while ago.
Do you disagree? Let me clarify. I mean that in the sense that their vote is taken for granted, and they don't have any leverage because the Repubs don't have to compete for their vote.
The President is laying the groundwork for creating an "ownership society." Its a good solid argument for a second term and its a positive one. The Democrats have nothing to offer but hate of Bush and tax and spend policies that have been tried and failed for the past four decades. Every American, not just blacks, should give the questions President Bush posed serious consideration and debate them. What kind of country do we want? As an American, I know the answer is not for us to become a giant Canada. We have a different history and are destined to be a great nation.
"However the AA community is very conspiratorial."
I go to a church that is about 80% black. And I ride the bus in the inner city. There is not a single conspiracy theory you can mention that I haven't heard before. I have had black friends patiently, even condescendingly lecture me about how the K on the Snapple bottle means KKK, that the CIA controls the weather and earthquakes, etc.

"That is understandable if you look at their history. If you remove the idea that the damage leftist policy has done in their community was deliberate, you would have to admit that until 30 years ago our society was hostile to them."
It IS understandable -- up to a point. Which is why I would open my speech with something I think Ron Woodson said, which is that "black people can no longer be treated like children to whom the truth cannot be told."
***
"They are always looking for Bull Connor and the KKK. Who can blame them. Republicans, fair or not, have been tagged with that label."
I can blame with a clean conscience because they need to start reading their history books more carefully. Every Deep South politician or sheriff or other leader from Jefferson Davis to Bull Connor, George Wallace, Orville Faubus, etc., and the KKK were all DEMOCRATS.
The Republican Party's first platform featured ending slavery, which Republican president Lincoln did 10 years later. Southern blacks who voted during that time registered and voted Republican. Black loyalty to Democrats is a very recent development over the last 40 years. Over 80% of Republican Senators and Congressman voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, while only 60% of Democrats did.

I agree it will take time, I understand the human psyche and human nature. BUT...it will take a lot longer if we "treat them like children to whom the truth cannot be told."
This is the UL. I wasn't expecting them to jump wildly in their seats for this President but he got a more fair hearing from this crowd than from the partisan NAACLP. The fact of the matter is there are plenty of forums for the President to go over the heads of liberals to address Black America.
That's the truth.
Still refers to you as colored? What pc term would you like? I'd prefer to just say American; but, since everyone wants to differentiate.. One never knows what the next person is going to be offended at. I got three versions of it on my block. So get over yourself.
You can tell them the truth all you want, but it will not make any difference because it does not fit the common perception. So when I say that the truth doesn't matter, it is not to equate blacks with children who can't be told the truth, it is to point out the fact that perception is indistinguishable from reality in politics.
These battle lines have been drawn for years, and the ensuing trench warfare requires huge expenditures for little gain. We need to attack the true enemy and attack them at the flanks.
The most effective appeal Republicans have to the AA community is on the basis of pragmatism. THe most effective short term tactic in seperating the AA community's support of the left would be for conservatives to run as democrats and attack the left on their home turf. The logistics are formidable but the spectacle of it would be priceless.
