Absolutely false. Any employee that is valuable to a company has tons of bargaining power. Develop your skills to a point where it is worth not only keeping you but paying you even more. I'm just a clerical worker but I'm good enough at what I do that I have had employers in bidding wars over me. This would not be the case if I spent all my time trying to do the minimum to get by and acting as if I'm doing the company a favor by showing up two days in a row.
