To GOP, He's Dishonoring His Father

Ronald Reagan (news - web sites)'s spiritual heirs will fill the halls of the Republican National Convention in late August, but the Democrats have secured his flesh and blood for a prime-time spot at this month's bash in Boston.

Ron Reagan, the late president's 46-year-old son, plans to use the global platform of the Democratic National Convention to endorse embryonic stem-cell experiments, an area of research that some think his father would have opposed but which his mother supports.

Politically, the booking is a triumph for the Democratic ticket of Sens. John F. Kerry and John Edwards (news - web sites), which promptly trumpeted its ability to attract "individuals from all political backgrounds." Affronted Republicans moved to discredit the famously renegade son, who often disagreed with his family's politics and is an outspoken critic of President Bush (news - web sites).

"I think his speech is a cute little story for convention coverage, but I don't think it's the sort of thing that will influence any voters," said Gary Bauer (news - web sites), a conservative activist and domestic policy advisor to President Reagan.

Summing up a sentiment widely held among conservative groups, Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America called the planned public appearance "sad."

Look, if little Ronnie Reagan wants to make an appearance at the Dems' convention in Boston, fine. It won't change any minds. Simple as that. His father's legacy is secure and nothing little Ronnie can do will harm it.

No soup for you! Next!

"Democrats have secured his flesh and blood"

My! What a "S & M" homosexual phrase to use - isn't it?

I am no fan of Richard Cohen, but he is awarded occasional moments of clarity. In one of those last week he pointed out how Ron Jr has failed at everything he has ever done except receiving a great name.

The ONLY reason that little tulip got his 15 minutes of fame was because of his daddy...

The dems and libs pretend to love him...because he has always dishonored his father....

His only claim to fame...his only way to get back in front of an audience and a camera
is to shame his father and his father's politics...if it werent for his dad....he'd be a waiter
at some gay roller skating drive in

imo

It would count as a triumph, if the Kerry Campaign had to beg R.R.jr. to attend the convention; I think he asked to speak. This is poor excuse for a son with the name of Ronald Reagan. He should be so ashamed.

Sorry, I actually RATHER see Ron "come out" as a Democrat. The only people who would have been influenced by what he said are Reagan's supporters - and they are conservatives/right-leaning moderates. He could have masqueraded for some time, attempting to influence them as an "heir to Reagan", so this is a far more honest way to go.

At a modern "democrat" convention, populated by leftists and communists, I hardly think anyone will mistake his views for his Father's...

"Ronnie Jr. swims in a shallow pool."

He doesn't have to swim -- $#!t floats.

If I were Michael Reagan I'd knock his teeth down his throat, but only after making sure I wouldn't cut myself or get his blod on me........

So lessee...the GOP has a SITTING DEMOCRAT United States Senator, ex-Governor and former Marine, Zell Miller, addressing its convention. The Dems got an atheistic former ballet dancer. Yet, the Dems have achieved a "triumph."

They attracted someone who is in lockstep with their views. What's so special about that?

The boy's a liberal, there's no changing who he is. What I don't understand is how he can associate with certain people given the way they treat his father. Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy deserve what they get, RR on the other hand was a gentleman.

Yesterday I heard someone refer to Ronald Prescott Reagan as merely President Reagan's 2nd son. Little Ron's name was never actually mentioned. One thing for sure, he is not Ronald Reagan, Jr; nor is he physically, intellectually, or spiritually his father's son.

Most Americans understand that Ronald Wilson Reagan, former and Ron Prescott (Reagan) are two different people. I don't think little Ron is going to sway conservative Republicans to vote for John Kerry, based on his support for embryonic stem cell research. At 83 years old, Nancy Reagan has two goals in her life. The Reagan Library and promoting embryonic stem cell research. I'd rather she concentrate on the Reagan Library, but being a former firts lady and lkiving in America, Mrs.Reagan is free to advance any issue she may choose. OTOH. I'm not so sure Ronald Reagan would support destroying human embryos to further scientific research in the field of possibilities. Especially since adult stem cell research works just as well, if not better for the needs of the research scientific community.

Yeah the ticket can attract left votes, liberal votes, socialist votes and even communist votes...

Ron Reagan voted for Nader last time, that's Kerry reaching out for you.
