Bingo - now we know why they leaked the Berger story - someone to blame and a way to distract from their underhanded partisan ploys to undermine this nations security!

Yeah...but they should have spoke up about it more at the time. They let it all happen.

Clarke's book? Bob Kerrey held it up for the cameras like a salesman. Reminded me of a game show hostess holding up a box of Rice-a-Roni.

Lehman is on Hannity right now lying his ass off about how they didn't cover up for Bubba, it's really disgusting.

“Mugged”
A 9/11 commissioner unloads on Richard Clarke and his “jihad against Bush.”

It is a day of 9/11 Commission unanimity, but one commissioner, looking back at its public work, is remembering the partisan past. "We were mugged by Viacom," Republican commissioner John Lehman says, referring to the owner of the publisher of Richard Clarke's book, Against All Enemies, and the owner of CBS, which broadcast a long, loving segment devoted to Clarke just prior to the release of his book.

"I think we were mugged by Viacom," Lehman told NRO in a phone interview on Thursday afternoon. "Because they changed the release date of the book and geared up 60 Minutes to launch his book to time them with his testimony and they edited his book to take out all of the criticisms of Clinton from his [original private] testimony. Because they wanted to make it a jihad against Bush."

Lehman says that Clarke's original testimony included "a searing indictment of some Clinton officials and Clinton policies." That was the Clarke, evenhanded in his criticisms of both the Bush and Clinton administrations, who Lehman and other Republican commissioners expected to show up at the public hearings. It was a surprise "that he would come out against Bush that way." Republicans were taken aback: "It caught us flat-footed, but not the Democrats."

A desperate attempt by the 9/11 kangaroo court to salvage some shred of credibility. Credibility that they let get demolished by allowing Teresa Heinz Kerry and the DNC to use them like a bunch of 20 dollar hookers. Only now, when they're getting ready to embark on a book tour, do they decide that the appearance of blatant leftist partisanship might be a bad thing.

I would like to know more about the Kerry campaign's involvement.

Everyone needs to know that the candidate put politics before the national security. Before the innocent lives of Americans.

This is as egregious as what Berger has done.

"Clarke's performance poisoned the public hearings, leading to weeks of a partisan slugfest. Lehman says Republican commissioners felt they had to fight back, adding to the partisan atmosphere. "What triggered it was Dick Clarke," says Lehman. "We couldn't sit back and let him get away with what he wanted to get away with." He adds, "We were hijacked by a combination of Viacom and the Kerry campaign in the handling of Clarke's testimony."

Wager that CBS will avoid this at all costs in their evening report.

Was it sworn testimony in both public and private questioning? If so, why weren't charges filed? of course I don't expect an answer

It wasn't Viacom parading Clarke and his book and holding it up as if it were the New Bible.

The Commissioners were doing that themselves. Now to cry, whine, and blame Viacom???? Nah, ain't buying that excuse.

If the Commission were so detailed after some 18 or so months of investigations before Clarke's testimony and Clarke's book, they should seen right through the lies in the book.

The Commissioners may have been hoodwinked/mugged, but it was with their own complicity in trying to play 'gotcha' toward the Bush Administration.

This whine is so transparent, it is pathetic.

Why would Kerry be hounding the commission unless he had information from Berger, that he wanted in the report or didn't want in the report? This could explain the theory of Berger sharing Confidential Archives with Kerry.

The game was lost from the very beginning. The Dems appointed partisan attack dogs and the GOP "statemen." It was no match. Once I heard Ben-Veniste was on the panel along with Jamie G., who had no business being on it at all, the result was precooked.
