"Clarke's performance poisoned the public hearings, leading to weeks of a partisan slugfest. Lehman says Republican commissioners felt they had to fight back, adding to the partisan atmosphere. "What triggered it was Dick Clarke," says Lehman. "We couldn't sit back and let him get away with what he wanted to get away with." He adds, "We were hijacked by a combination of Viacom and the Kerry campaign in the handling of Clarke's testimony."

Wager that CBS will avoid this at all costs in their evening report.

Yeah, you guys really fought back hard. Besides calling the FDNY a bunch of "Boy Scouts", you didn't utter a peep when Bob Kerrey and Lee Hamilton just got up and walked out on the POTUS in the middle of his testimony, once they were certain that they would not be able to preen before the cameras. You sat there mute and told us to "mind our own business" when Atty. General Ashcroft pointed out the existence of the Gorelick wall, and continued to stay quiet while the press shredded Ashcroft for "politicizing the hearings"! I could rant and rave all night.

Next time you want to "fight for us", just do us all a favor and go stump for John Kerry.
