All he has to do is to steer clear of Ft. Marcy Park and any Clinton-sponsored free air travel.

Lawrence O'Donnell on Scarborough Country tonight said that Sandy Berger is the person who leaked the information about the investigation.

Oh, low and behold - several sources are now claiming what I suggested (how naive of me) -

He might even wish he were in custody, right now. He went in with Gore and Clinton when they testified before the 911 commission, NOT under oath, iirc--someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So, Clinton told him to get the docs. He didn't want to, because then he'd be expendible. So, he steals them, makes sure to get caught, and is now cooperating with the FBI (according to his lawyer).

Again, we have the ones he said he "inadvertently destroyed"--maybe ones with Clintons' handmade notes in the margins...stored away by Berger's lawyers in a great big enormous vault in a bank somewhere, in case of an accident, or a plane crash, or feeling suicidal or something.

There has to be a piece missing to this story. This still is not making sense.

It is clear Berger knowingly took classified information. It is reasonably clear that he took it on the behest of the Clintons . The question now is, what exactly did he take? If the documents have been destroyed it becomes difficult to ascertain. The only hope then being Berger cutting a deal to save himself. Once 'what' is known, 'why' should be clear.

I don't think this hurts Kerry directly, but indirectly, by overshadowing his campaign and causing dissension in the party, it could be a fatal.
IMO

I'm sure the Clintons think that they can avoid damage. But they are calling them pretty close. Desperation?

Berger seems an old hand at stealing classified documents. He doesn't act like a first timer, or even a 50th timer...

FoxNews reports also that Berger's attorney said he "knowingly" took the documents.

The attorney is letting Berger's masters know that he wants to play "Let's Make a Deal", and that they need to give him a call if they want a spot at the table along with the Feebs. That begs the question, "Who exactly is this attorney representing, Berger or Berger's boss?"

I think the article is pretty informative and we should be glad it's being printed. However, I just double checked and it's not front page, but A6.

Better than nothing, but inside nonetheless.

Now, now,This is all a smear by the VRWC!...Poor old Sandy is just disorganized, it was an inadvertant stuffing of copies of the same information into his pants and socks and a man once chief advisor on our national security isn't expected to worry about national security, follow rules or remember the rules..

Sad, but true. The story is all about the evil Pubbies "leaking" this. They are evil personified.

This is very true - I mean go to the big three networks sites right now (if the big three don't cover it...it ain't going to get to the size of Watergate) -

But go to there sites - the Berger story is not ANY of the lead stories...and where it is mentioned...the headline is about "timing of the leak" and or "GOP using for political advantage"!!! -

IMO, this one hurts Kerry AND the Dims, particularly because it encompasses enough intrigue so that the media will stay tuned -- the images of a Pol stuffing docs in his trousers is too juicy for even the liberal media to pass up. I am, however, at a loss as to whether it was leaked by the Bush or Clinton teams. Leaning toward the Bushies. Either way, Kerry is exposed to be the buffoon that we all know he is. :O)

You are absolutely right!

Every single piece of paper is controlled - not to mention the bright, multicolored classification sheets attached front and back. And, that every single document, every copy, must be signed for and the original receipt kept in the control area.

Any Freepers out there who work/worked in classified area? I spent 34 years in such before I retired.

One other question, wouldn't Sandy Berger have been debriefed when Bush took office. He was no longer National Security Advisor and had no need for access. If this be the case, why was he (now uncleared) allowed to have these documents?

A couple of months after I retired, a big problem arose on a project I had been working on. They wanted me to come back to help out but security wouldn't allow it. Said I would have to have a background check and be re-cleared.

Incidentally, for all the clearances he received and for which he was briefed, he had to sign a statement concerning the handling of Classified Material. It plainly states that if you mishandle or give information to uncleared personnel, you WILL BE PROSECUTED!
