FReep "Bait and Switch" Ronstadt
7-21-04 | Bob J

Posted on 07/21/2004 8:47:21 AM PDT by Bob J

Linda Ronstadt has made it clear she will continue inserting her vitriolic political commentary into her concerts. I think the the venues hosting them should know that customers like us go to concerts to hear music and be entertained not lectured, screemed at or propagandized. If we want politics, we will turn on the news or read a paper. Let these venues know that we will cancel are tickets and refuse to see any more Ronstadt concerts until she performs as she was hired to do and why we bought tickets. Mention that you intend to tell your friends, relatives and family about this.

I could only find a couple more appearances in the Ronstadt Concert schedule through September, it appears she is taking August off.

Sample Email;

I understand that Linda Ronstadt will be performing at your venue. Recently, Ms. Ronstadt has been making inappropriate political remarks and comments during her concerts. When I go to hear a singer or band, I go to be entertained, not lectured to. This is not a free speech issue, it is a customer issue. If she wants to express her political beliefs, let her schedule an event to do so, but do not allow her to turn what is advertised as a concert into a political side show.

If Linda Ronstadt wants to be a force for political change, let her run for office, until then I will not be paying good money to hear my beliefs criticized and belittled, and, I will telling my friends and family to do the same.

Regards,

Her career tanked twenty years ago.

Or better yet, let them market the events as "Linda Ronstadt Sings her Favorites Songs Along With her Political Commentary".

At least then people won't be suckered into paying $50 to be insulted by loud mouthed, arrogant, elitist, idiotic dolts.

What would you say if Moore marketed his film as "A Jaunty Stroll Down Country Music Memory Lane"? To me, it's a bait and switch.

This isn't about Ronstadt, it's about every other performer who wishes to bait and switch their customers and use their events as a platform to engage in political activism.

I think the only venue that would rethink having her would be the Texas one. In any case, I'm finding it hard to take seriously the remarks of an old hippie whose singing career is on life support.

Gotcha, thanks for the explanation.

Personally, I believe the backlash is well underway against the Ronstadt's, Goldbergers, Sarandon, Dixie Chick type Bush Bashing.

I don't want them to shut up, I want them to keep doing exactly what they are doing. Its become counter productive in my opinion, helps our side of this.

Just my opinion.

I was very troubled to hear her say that the electorate had better get their heads out of their"mashed potatoes"(I spell it like the former Vice President),and find out about the issues!I'm sorry Linda, but if your idea of"Finding Out About The Issues"includes the fantasies of an America Hating Slob,I'm going back to my Mashed Potatoes!!!!!!!

LInda R. is making enemies and inciting people to the point that the concert venues may have to drop her on the grounds of being too volitle for a crowded place.

As a matter of fact we should all write to these venues for the remaining dates and any new ones and let them know our concerns.

Ops4 God Bless America!

She's playing on the pier? On a Tuesday night? Snicker. That's walking distance from my office... I'm sorely tempted...

And CNN is still showing a 20-year-old photo on their website.

Thanks, but I'm a little confused. You said "I don't want them to shut up, I want them to keep doing exactly what they are doing. Its become counter productive in my opinion, helps our side of this."

You say what they are doing has become counter productive, but how has that happened? It's happened because people finally stood up and said "enough is enough".

If people don't react to this kind of thing, the mushy head people in the middle, the ones who wait to find out what offends others before they decide what to be offended about (and unfortunately are the swing votes in elections), will believe it is AOK and those comments must reflect the general opinion of most people.

This is one reason why the left has been able to effectively propagandize for the last 40 years...too fewody stood up and expressed their own outrage.

LOL. That is the way you spell "potatoes." That's how they confused Quayle. They showed him a flash card with the plural, then asked him to spell the singular. Any proofreader knows that once you see something in print, it starts to look right even if it's wrong.
