FReep "Bait and Switch" Ronstadt
7-21-04 | Bob J

Posted on 07/21/2004 8:47:21 AM PDT by Bob J

Linda Ronstadt has made it clear she will continue inserting her vitriolic political commentary into her concerts. I think the the venues hosting them should know that customers like us go to concerts to hear music and be entertained not lectured, screemed at or propagandized. If we want politics, we will turn on the news or read a paper. Let these venues know that we will cancel are tickets and refuse to see any more Ronstadt concerts until she performs as she was hired to do and why we bought tickets. Mention that you intend to tell your friends, relatives and family about this.

I could only find a couple more appearances in the Ronstadt Concert schedule through September, it appears she is taking August off.

I understand that Linda Ronstadt will be performing at your venue. Recently, Ms. Ronstadt has been making inappropriate political remarks and comments during her concerts. When I go to hear a singer or band, I go to be entertained, not lectured to. This is not a free speech issue, it is a customer issue. If she wants to express her political beliefs, let her schedule an event to do so, but do not allow her to turn what is advertised as a concert into a political side show.

If Linda Ronstadt wants to be a force for political change, let her run for office, until then I will not be paying good money to hear my beliefs criticized and belittled, and, I will telling my friends and family to do the same.

Regards,

Fox News reported this morning that the Aladen Casino is being sould to Starwood (Sheraton) and the Prez of Starwood is inviting fat-ass Linda and Moore to come sing God Bless America.

If Linda R. did a canon ball into a Beverly Hills swimming pool would America hear it?

Well, it might put out the wildfires.

Maybe she's got a crush on Michael Moore and this is the only way she can think of to meet him...

She's probably already sleeping with him --- her politics tend to be most influenced by who she's bedding down --- I just hope these two have a super-king size bed. All Linda Ronstadt ever was is a high school drop out with a good singing voice who was well known back in the 70's but not for much after that. She used a lot of drugs, slept with many men --- was the perfect flower child --- now she believes because she's rich, she's somehow extra-special and can lecture to the little people.

Linda Ronstadt is a nobody now...not even worth listening to. This was the over-50-years-old group in the audience

I think you're right -- how many people under 50 have ever even heard of her? Even those over 50 didn't hear of her for the last 30 years --- and I have no clue what she's singing today -- but I would guess it's just her same old oldies tunes.

Linda Ronstadt has made it clear she will continue inserting her vitriolic political commentary into her concerts.

Well, at least now, the only people who will be subjected to her prattle will expect it in advance.

In Vegas, any employee of a casino who does anything at all to piss off even one guest, let alone half of them, can expect to be looking for another job.

Tough buns, honey... oh well, any publicity is good publicity, they say, and it's not like Ronstadt couldn't use a career boost.

Hmmmm.... ya ever notice that when "artists" go political, it's usually when nobody's paying any attention to their "artistry" anymore?

I could go point by point explaining your ongoing errors on this, but its not worth it too me.

We disagree. No problem. I do appreciate the time and effort you put into this post.

Thanks.

It is unfortunate. Although always liberal, the Linda Ronstadt of the 70s was at least kinda cute in an odd sort of way.

Maybe she's got a crush on Michael Moore....

I think the words "Michael Moore" and "crush" should never, NEVER, be used in the same sentence.....

Glad I'm not a shareholder with this guy at the helm.

"I see it like this. When your opponents insist on displaying a infantile view of the world in general, and this President in particular....give em all the media coverage possible. It only reinforces the most disgusting traits required to be a Democrat in the year 2004."

Infantile to whom? You? Me? This stuff looks ridiculous to us, the libs applaud it and the people in the middle don't know what to think so they wait to see who screams the loudest and many times adopt that position. You say give them all the media coverage, but if we don't speak up that coverage will consist of Dan Rather and CNN talking about how wonderful they are, how meaningful their comments sound and what heroes they are for having the courage to speak their minds.

Those kind of lies, repeated often enough without contradiction, become facts.

Unfortunately, I think you're exactly right about the political function of the media.

Ronstadt still has a great voice. But if I had been at the concert, I would have walked out in protest too.

Oswald Spengler:

What is truth? For the multitude, that which it continually reads and hears. A forlorn little drop may settle somewhere and collect grounds on which to determine “The Truth”-but what it obtains is just its truth. The other, the public truth of the moment, which alone matters for effects and successes in the fact-world, is today a product of the press. What the press wills, is true. Its commanders evoke, transform, interchange truths. Three weeks of press work, and the truth is acknowledged by everybody…A more appalling caricature of freedom of thought cannot be imagined. Formerly a man did not dare to think freely. Now, he dares, but cannot; his will to think is only a willingness to think to order, and this is what he feels is HIS liberty.

Decline of the West, Volume II, authorized translation, 1928

Thanks for the passage. I'll bet an enterprising editor could come up with a bookfull of insightful reflections on the press from powerful 19th and early 20th century thinkers worth more than a whole library of contemporary books on media bias.

But it's inevitable. He can't stand up ALL the time.
