BAGHDAD, July 21 (UPI) -- Iraqi security reportedly discovered three missiles carrying nuclear heads concealed in a concrete trench northwest of Baghdad, official sources said Wednesday. The official daily al-Sabah quoted the sources as saying the missiles were discovered in trenches near the city of Tikrit, the hometown of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. "The three missiles were discovered by chance when the Iraqi security forces captured former Baath party official Khoder al-Douri who revealed during interrogation the location of the missiles saying they carried nuclear heads," the sources said. They pointed out that the missiles were actually discovered in the trenches lying under six meters of concrete and designed in a way to unable sophisticated sensors from discovering nuclear radiation. The sources said al-Douri, who is related to former Vice Chairman of the Iraq Revolution Council and Saddam's right-hand man Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, was captured after Iraqi police intercepted an e-mail message in which he set a meeting with another former Baath official. The report could not be authenticated by the interior ministry or the national security department, but the paper noted Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiar Zibari made a surprise request recently to Mohammed el-Baradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, to resume inspections for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
Pick me no nits of that size. Off by a foot and a half is a lot different than being off by 16 1/2 feet. ;-)
Not neccessarily.
Keep in mind, this is Reuters quoting an "unnamed source".
There is no OFFICIAL word one way or the other yet, so I'm taking a "wait and see" - although I sure hope this is indeed true - just for the SEE? factor.
Y'know I think that they should put this quote on Lanny Davis' tombstone. "The timing of my death was sadly curious". Kinda has a WC Fields ring to it...
hmm....yeah, your right.
I don't know why I was thinking there was an official denial (am rather sleepy...must have missed them just quoting one source calling it such...).
Hoping he's just out of the loop.
Its a Reuters story, UPI had the most information on it, very plausable, probably take a few days to confirm, say about the time Kerry has to give his acceptance speech,LOL.
Hey...priorities...defeat the libs before all else...get with the FR program
Laura Ingrham just mentioned it as well!
The leftist media will view this the same way they viewed those mortar shells that were found that contained remnants of mustard gas in them several months ago. This will not be seen as a "smoking gun".
However, if there is any truth to this at all, where there are three missiles, I am sure there will be more.
I don't think I believe it yet,,it would be just too rich. For Kerry to be speaking whilst Berger is being roasted and this! I can't believe we would be so very blessed.
...it's actually 19'8.22". A meter is 39.37 inches.
bump for later
These WMD's musta been packed is Saddam's old socks....just like Sandy's secrets....
Sorry for jumping the gun folks...I read the Reuters story but my brain is not working at this early hour. The story does include one source denying the claim.
BUT......not an official denial.
Sorry.
2 other possibilities present themselves:
1. These ARE nuke warheads, but they lack a vital component like a trigger. Remember that Saddam had some intelligence agents nailed in a sting operation while attempting to buy such triggers back in the early 90's. -- or --
2. These are "dirty bombs" designed not for nuclear detonation, but to spread radioactive material over a wide area. Nasty, but militarily ineffective in defense of Iraq (our troops were protected & moving way too fast).
But this is all just speculation, and I am content to await confirmation of the basic facts of this story. Let's see if anybody else picks up this report.
So this is not an "official" denial, is that right?
This doesn't surprise me at all. Good news for Bush. Bad news for 9-1-1 Commission and Kerry.
Maybe we should have a hearing to investigate the 9-1-1 Commission for incompetence.
I didn't know that. Learn something every day.:)
