you will note that the U.N. rated the quality of life here as higher than in the U.S.

Of this I have no doubt. "Quality of life" is a very subjective thing when you are looking at first world nations. What the U.N. uses to judge quality of life might not square with mine. I don't know their criteria. I would expect it to include the usual litany of socialized health care, low drug costs, gun control, etc. that makes up the typical U.N. matrix of utopian social orders.

I'm not criticizing Canada. It's a beautiful country and every Canadian I've ever met has been incredibly nice, and most have an amazing ability to take endless ribbing from Americans. But most of us on this site would probably not prefer to live there because our notions of what the "good life" is differ.

Frankly, I wish both populations would drop the insulting and patronizing attitude toward each other that's developed lately. It's not becoming to either nation.

Do you honestly believe you would ever be able to defend yourselves?

Well said.

I don't disagree with a word of your post.

Your gratious post notwithstanding, it is a bit hard to read some of the inaccurate posts, by other members, about America's "defence of Canada" without being moved to correct even a few of the myriad of factual errors that underlie those opinions.

I share your hope that we will learn to respect our differences.

"Do you honestly believe that you would ever be able to defend yourselves?"

I know that we share a very long land border with the world's only superpower. I also know that we have no hope of winning a conventional arms war against the U.S. (though an unconventional war, fought over many years, is an open question).

On the other hand, I know that Canadians have fighter-bombers within 15 minutes of most northern U.S. cities and the ability to develop nuclear bombs within a matter of months. (They may already be stockpiled)

Can we defend ourselves? I think so.

Yes, I have no doubt we could defend ourselves. The question in my mind is for how long. That, of course, depends on who attacks us.

Canada has the population of California. California is dominated by the libs in LA and SF. Canada isdominated by euroweenies from Ontario and Quebec. The majority of the people of Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchawan are conservative.

Then the conservatives need to consider secession. Either that or start a war with the leftist fools who are running their country.

This US/Canada thing sometimes sounds so much like the Australia/NZ thing it's scary.

You even get the same sort of silly "we actually defend you" stuff we get from some Kiwis.

I also note that the "we are better than you because we rank 3rd in tiddlywinks playing efficiency" card is also played.

Some time ago I thought it would be great to have NZ as an Australian state. Now I agree pretty much with the response you have quoted by the Australian to your NZ blogger.

The two countries have just moved too far apart on so many levels for any sort of merger to take place. I'm sure this view would be supported by the majority on your side of the Tasman.

You Canadians are spending zero for defense because of the United States, come on, you are in no danger from us.

If you weren't totally dependant on our Armed Forces to keep you safe you would have to GUT your welfare system to pay for a decent Navy, Air Force, and Army.

So we see that the two trolls, NorthOf45 and Canuckistani, are either one in the same or joined at the hip.

Alas, poor Canadians...they've no idea what true evil is. What they do not realize is that if the U.S. continues to be terrorized, and continues to be attacked by those we thought were friends, a transformation may occur.

I believe they would not care for such enlightenment.

I agree. Leave NZ as it is and let it sink, and let anyone who think right move to your side of the Tasman. (wink, wink)

Alternatively, we should let Tasmania and NZ join the rump of Canada after their Western provinces left for the United States or the Australian Federation in desperations. They were made for each other.

Cheers.

I noticed you pinged Piefloater and I to this fracas, but not the rabidly unreasonable faction (without naming names.) I appreciate that.

Oh, and I repeat. Room for a few more right-thinking folk, this side of the Tasman...

Cheers,
KaJac

You know, it's already exhausting enough facing tripes from our Canadian friends. We really don't need yet more tripes, NZ version. ;-)

So now I'm a troll and have multiple personalities? Your comments keep getting better and better. Reread my posts and you should be able to discern where I stand.

However, I will say this. I'm a Conservative Canadian who supports our military and a unified Canada. While I also support the American people, I have no patience for the hate-Canada crowd with their "Canada sucks no matter what" agenda.

Correction, the libs and those easily swayed by them don't truly know what evil is. There are some of us including Canadians like the hero below that know what's what.

Who's triping? The "Canadian friends" I see on this board are predominantly responding to tripes from others. There seems to be a faction of posters that direct their wrath at all of the people of Canada when it should be directed at our liberal government and biased media. Instead, they capitalize on what said media writes and use it to support their hate-Canada agenda. It's very counterproductive.

An excellent point, and one well taken.

Even if our friends to the north persist in putting vinegar on their freedom fries. :-)
