SEN. SAXBY CHAMBLISS: 'Reportedly these documents are related to homeland security and then suddenly we see the Kerry campaign came forward with what may have been illegal documents. This is sensitive stuff and was a significant breach of security...Kerry knows better than to use these documents,' Chambliss says in a press conference.
SEN. GORDON SMITH: 'There is a curious connection between the removal of these documents and the Kerry press conference on port security..It's disappointing what people might do as they try and take the President down.
The National Archives classified reading room employs the same handling requirements as a SCIF-Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility. The information is what is classified, regardless of the media, so Berger was not even allowed to take out his own notes! Doing so is a violation of Archives policy and quite possibly federal law. However, since he was reviewing documents for the 9/11 Commission, arrangements could have been made for him to have notes from which to give testimony during the hearings, although heavily redacted, and he could have had a private session with only the commissioners and no public present. However, given the fact that he destroyed some documents, it appears as though he was most likely after documents that are embarrassing to him and the Clinton administration.
Most of the General Public doesn't seem to have a clue about Classified Documents. ..... even some here it appears....
Well this Irish connection is a new one on me.
Could be so, if properly played out.
Republicans across the board must unite with:
Democrats cannot be trusted with our National Security.
Followed with details - Clinton inaction preceeding 9/11/2001 when Berger was NSA, Kerry handpicked Berger, Berger commits felony document thefts, Kerry uses classified stolen documents on website, takes down webpages when discovered, Democrats vote AGAINST vital weapon programs, etc.
That's the ticket and all of us must do what we can to get the facts out!
There is no way to verify that the missing documents were destroyed.
They are *missing* and unaccounted for.
This is a HUGH breach of National Security.
I think Mr. Burger's motivation may have been financial--he was, after all, an *unpaid* liaison to the Kerry camp.
It is not a stretch to imagine he was purposefully put in a position where he had to 'earn his keep.'
I hope someone checks his bank deposits.
I should have said the Justice Department. Comey has already made some comments.
You write, "in my days of working with classifed info that this [ie taking home documents]RARELY happened."
Maybe this didn't happen when you were working in the government, but I think it is happening now. I am not excusing it. I am just saying people take these papers home to work on them.
Here is what happened to me as an example. A friend of mine asked me if I could translate the Russian aeronautical terms that labelled a picture of a Russian space ship. Her husband needed this paper translated right away and it would take a long time to get a government translator.
This was one of those spaceships that can attach to another space ship. I think they were working together with the Russians to join two ships.I said I would try to translate the paper.
When she brought the paper, I saw it had a stamp on it indicating it was classified. I said I can't see it if it is classified. She said that this isn't important because they need the information.
To me it seems that people may mishandle documents so that they can get work done. In this case i know about, the government was so slow that important work couldn't get done because it call classified and it would take too long to get a translator.
I translated the paper and the man was very happy because he could use the information to do his work.
People are under pressure to get work done and they take it home.
Exactly! This is what should have happened in this case as well.
Here is a quote from the print media I found.
Senator Chambliss says:
"And as a member of the Intelligence Committee, I deal with classified documents every single day," he said. "We know better. And Sandy Berger knew better. And for gosh sakes, Senator Kerry knows better than to utilize those documents in any way, and we think it needs to be called into question as to whether or not they have."
The last part of this quote ["we think it needs to be called into question whether or not they have"] shows that the Senators don't know if the documents were used by Kerry.

Senator Chambliss did not accuse John Kerry of using classified information stolen by Berger. He is asking IF Kerry did.
Here is the link to Senator Chambliss' homeepage http://chambliss.senate.gov/default.cfm
If he were to accuse Kerry of using classified documents, it would appear here.
Please post only short excerpts and links from the Washington Post.
According to this linked article, Berger was an advocate of a strong response to Iraq. He was in agreement with James Woolsey on how to handle Iraq. Now this is from the liberal Seymour Hersh who is writing an article casting doubt on the widely accepted view that Iraq tried to kill the first President Bush.

What Berger did is wrong, but he seems to have enemies on the left, as this article proves.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) said, "I don't know what happened to these documents after they were put in Mr. Berger's pants."
Chamblis says he doesn't know what happened to the documents.
The title of this link SENATE REPUBLICANS ACCUSE JOHN KERRY OF USING CLASSIFIED INFO STOLEN BY SANDY BERGER, is jumping to conclusions.
LOL !!Good pic there, gopwinsin04!
And welcome to FreeRepublic.com !
ARE THOSE DOCUMENTS IN YOUR PANTS? OR ARE YOU JUST HAPPY TO SEE ME?LOL !
Rush Limbaugh devoted a good deal of his show to Sandy "Burglar" and referred to this as:TrouserGate!
