In a statement issued late Monday, Berger said the removal of those papers was unintentional. But law enforcement sources told CNN that some of the papers he is said to have taken from the National Archives were stuffed into his socks as well as other parts of his clothing.

That allegation drew sharp responses from two of Berger's associates. President Clinton's former spokesman, Joe Lockhart, said Berger "categorically denies that he ever took documents and stuffed them in his socks.

"And Condi is rather small-busted. I doubt any documents would have fitted in there."

LOL I guess I'm not the only breast-guy who checked her out from that perspective.

"Sorry to disappoint you spazamataz, but this happens everyday and this is why it was a non-starter until Bush needed something to distract goobers like you."

That's beautiful. That spin means that the Kerry campaign is going to get sucked into defending Berger before they finally flip-flop and dump him.

Your DNC spinner person said: "The same sort of "Serious Felony" gets committed around here everyday. That's why all facilities with Secret containers use volunteer security monitors from the staff that actually uses the material. It protects that employees from themselves and this type of very common situation."

Yeah, I'm sure top secret documents regarding the War on Terror always find their way into the socks, clothing and underwear of all national security personnel. It's just normal. Nothing to see here. Happens all the time. Move along.

She's full of %$@! and she know's it.

If this had been done by a Republican (not that it ever would have been, but for the sake of discussion...), we all know that the DNC, Kerry and the alphabet soup media would be going ballistic over this! There would be around the clock "SockGate" coverage, and Katie et al would be chanting "What did Bush know and when did he know it?"

On this one, the Dems/Libs/Socialists got caught. Plain and simple. And the American people aren't buying their story this time. The spin is so pathetic this time that even some media outlets are actually REPORTING what happened.

With the 9/11 report due out in two days, and with the recent admissions in the press that the Bush administration did indeed NOT mislead or lie about Iraq, Iraq is stabilizing under its new gov't, and that Iran may be involved with the terrorists (really, we had no idea...) this Sandy Berger fiasco couldn't have come at a worse time for Kerry and the DNC. People are getting it. Linda Ronstandt's fiasco in Las Vegas and the response the audience gave her is another example. Good!

Hell must be cooling off this afternoon...

This story has more holes than the Swiss cheese I had for lunch today. Questions: 1) If he was being watched, why did security not stop him when he stole the documents? 2) If these documents are so valuable, why was he not searched upon leaving? 3)I would think there would be security cameras watching everything visitors do. 4) It is reported Berger stole documents on 5 different occasions over a total of 30 hours, why was he not stopped each time security saw him steal the documents? 5) Authorities upon learning of the missing papers, called Bruce Lindsay, Clinton's attorney, and not federal law enforcement, why. This whole story raises more questions than it answers.

I'm going to cultivate my relationship with this DNC paid professional. The stuff I will glean will be priceless.

Why does everything revolving around the Clintonistas revolve around putting something in your pants or taking something out?

Just damn.

You don't think the RNC and WH are capitalizing right now?

I think it's clear that the Bush campaign will avoid commenting on this. So it's up to the shadow campaign.

"Sandy's usual disorganized, disheveled self"

And this sloppy, slovenly, disorganized character was National Security Adviser to the President of the United States? Someone should tell Bill Richardson that this is not a ringing endorsement of Clinton's skill in choosing people for sensitive responsible positions.

I don't think the White House needs to comment on SockGate. The scandal speaks for itself, and there isn't enough spin in the world to convince the average American that stuffing security documents into one's socks (or any issue of clothing) is inadvertant, accidental or normal.

Wonder if the FBI seized his computers and I wonder if he INADVERTENTLY entered the documents or notes onto any of his computers

"...categorically denies that he ever took documents and stuffed them in his socks."

Aha, so this is simply another Clintonese grammatical nuance issue.

-maybe he took certain documents, but didn't stuff those documents in his socks.
-maybe he stuffed certain documents in his socks, but didn't take those documents.
-or perhaps he took certain documents, slipped them into his socks, but never stuffed.

It all depends on what the meaning of is is, you see. "I did not have socks with that document, Ms Inadvertent."

Actually the DUmmies are all abuzz with Trousergate, but their opinions of its significance differ greatly from ours.

Then perhaps you simply don't think clearly...

Don't forget lederhosen!

One thing I'm worried about: those National Archive employees who reported Sandy Berger - will they be the new Linda Tripp?

I don't see the campaign commenting on the investigation, or whether Berger is guilty. I'm sure there are smarter ways to take advantage of this, and you have pointed out one of them.

I suspect there is someting buried in the 911 Commission Report that will tie into this.

There's a Dr. Seuss parody here: "Docs in Socks"

Did you take the docs?
Did you put them in your sox?
Or did you put them in a box?

Would you, could you in a box?
Would you could you in your sox?

C'mon, Freepers, help me out here...
