The real deal

Linda Ronstadt's current tour – 'a history lesson of music' – reflects her dedication to authenticity, and quality By George Varga July 15, 2004 Other singers may have a greater passion for music than Linda Ronstadt. But few have a greater passion for more types of music, or the willingness to perform them, even at the risk of falling on her face.

"My career has befuddled other people, and it's befuddled me," admitted Ronstadt, 58, who finds her fans are polarized by her nightly on-stage salute to "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore.

"I've been dedicating a song to him – I think he's a great patriot – and it splits the audience down the middle, and they duke it out," she said.

"This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know."

"I saw a movie recently about a camel and these people in Mongolia, and I relate to them better than people here in this country. It looks like (Germany's) Weimar Republic to me here."

Well, she got the boot from Aladin, whom I cannot blame for tossing her! Supposedly 4500 who attended her concert, stormed out, ripped up posters and threw cocktails in the air. So much for her opinions about Moore and America.
Good riddence.

i'm thinking what linda needs is to feel the absence of fundamentalist Christians and Republicans at her concerts and the absence of their dollars in her pocket... bc you know, they really would rather not know she was a bleeding heart leftist either. But by gum, she opened her yap, so now, she needs to feel mass desertion by those that discomfit her.

But she has no problem with letting us know. Clueless tw@t.

I wonder how many Christians and Republicans paid perfectly good money for her albums?

Perhaps I'm showing my age...but who the hell is Linda Ronstadt?

And should I really care what she thinks on geo-political issues?

What happens in Vegas stays there, unless you're Linda Rondstadt. LOL

My brother lives there and he's in the music biz. According to him, Linda hates casinos too.

I'm thinking that she's going through an ambivalent phase - I'm not sure why she hates casinos.

Whoopi loses Slim-Fast, LR loses Vegas and probably won't be called back, AT BAT? We shall see...

Sometimes I'm just amazed at the people who think we're entitled to their opinions, whether we want to know or not. Worse, they think that because the express those opinions, we should automatically agree with them. Pffft.

Y'know, when I was a kid, Linda Rondstadt was a pretty decent looking dish. She's got decent pipes, too.

But now, she looks like she shares the "All You Can Eat" buffet with Kirstie Alley.

Just damn.

Just damn.

If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...

"It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know."

Then she should prominently note in her concert advertising that Republicans and fundamental Christians are not welcome. If she doesn't like having them there, then she should be willing to do without their money.

Wow. I find Ms. Rondstandt's view rather scary. I can't believe she can get away with saying this about Christians. If she had said "fundamental Islamists", she would have been strung up, but it's cool to bash Christians. (Frankly I'll take Jerry Falwell over Osama any day, call me crazy!)
She has a bad case of "Broken Moral Compass".
I'm not a big boycott type, but maybe Christians and Republicans should just refrain from supporting Linda so as not to cloud her enjoyment.

Bet she isn't selling many albums lately, or concert tickets...she should be careful not to tee off the few remaining fans she has left.

Apparently, Ms Ronstadt didn't hear what happened to Danny Glover, the Dixie Chicks, and Whoopi Goldberg when they went off the deep end and started spouting politics.

Pity...but soon she'll know that fate.

Exactly how we feel, Linda! Amazing that she gets it for herself, but can't apply it to the audience.

The more the leftwingnuts talk, the less likely they will win in November.

I'd like to thank this fat aging has been for demonstrating this point for me.

It's easy, Linda. You are an entertainer. You are supposed to sing. You are supposed to keep your mouth shut about politic since it is your personal belief! If you can't do it, then just leave the entertainment field and dry out someplace. It's that simple!
