Arnold's 'girlies' get surly
The New York Daily News ^ | July 20, 2004 | MICHELLE CARUSO

LOS ANGELES - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't star in "The Jerk" but outraged California Democrats say he behaved like one when he belittled Democratic legislators as "girlie men."

"I've always considered him a jerk, and this has reinforced that. He's stooped to a ninth-grade level," said Bob Mulholland, campaign adviser to the California Democratic Party. "He's a juvenile boy with steroid muscles who has never really adjusted to being an elected official," he said.

In a speech Saturday, the tough-talking governator slammed state Democrats as girlie men for delaying passage of the state's $103 billion budget.

The remark - a reference to weakling wimps taken from an old "Saturday Night Live" bodybuilder sketch that parodied Schwarzenegger - ticked off Democrats across the Golden State.

But Schwarzenegger yesterday said he stands by his comments.

State Sen. Sheila Kuehl, a former actress who played Zelda on the early-1960s TV series "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis," gave Schwarzenegger back some of his own medicine.

"The 'Kindergarten Cop' turned into a kindergartner," said Kuehl, who called Schwarzenegger's comment "homophobic, an insult, ill-educated and old-fashioned."

Schwarzenegger also urged voters to "terminate" Democrats in the November election - repeating his favorite stump phrase, referring to his "Terminator" films.

"As far as the 'Terminator' line, I was tired of that one a long time ago. I only hope the voters get tired of it, too," Kuehl said.

"It's interesting that he uses the female gender, girlie men, as a pejorative insult," said state Assemblyman Mark Leno. "He owes Californians an apology because instead of focusing on the real business at hand - passing the budget - he's campaigning against Democrats. We need leadership, not partisan warfare."

The Democrats obviously have no sense of humour and can't stand a single jibe - meanwhile the Republicans get a full Whoopie Goldberg dousing of expletives and little happens. The Democrats are indeed "girly men" - humourless, brainless, and worthless.

Regards, Ivan

And also silly...

If the shoe fits. Frankly he was quite kind compared to what I call the California Dems. :)

Geez, the NAACP leadership calls Bush & Co every name in the book and the expectation is that he should 'come around.' Arnold makes a simple joke and the targets of it break into hysertics.

Kinda like I would expect a girly-man to.

The Democrats sure know how to dish it out but when someone gives them just the slightest taste of the same they go running to mommy (the media) crying just like...well, just like little girly men.

Arnold is right. I didn't vote for him but I am beginning to like Arnold more and more.

Schwarzenegger yesterday said he stands by his comments

Good for him, I would have been disappointed if he backed off and apoligized or something, he went up a couple of notches on my list.

"But Schwarzenegger yesterday said he stands by his comments."

Good! It's refreshing to see a politician who says what he means, means what he says and no backing down.

Good. Sometimes you just gotta called the girlie man a girlie man.

With all the hand-holding that Kerry and Edwards have been doing, what else could Arnold call those Democrats?

""He's a juvenile boy with steroid muscles who has never really adjusted to being an elected official," he said."

From all I've heard and read, Ah-nold is doing the work he promised he do. So, in other words, now that he's an elected official he's doing what he was elected to do. The only "juvenile" is the juvenile little girly-boy whining to the press instead of doing his job.

A very revealing comment, best read with a high-pitched screech on the word "hope".

Arnold was the object of much derision when the clever Hollywood opinion-makers thought he was just a typical muscle-flexing actor with fairly predictable traits reflecting the characters he portrayed.

But Arnold used this as protective cover, as he exploited this persona in his run for the governorship. People continued to confuse his screen personality for the real person behind it, and as a stealth tactic, it worked. Even the hard-core, to-the-death superliberals of the Coast bought the sizzle, without realizing they were also getting the steak.

Some of them have recognized that they made a misjudgment, but they cannot find a way to reverse their stand without looking petty and insignificant. Of course, since they ARE petty and insignificant, objectively it was no great intellectual leap.

Girlie Men. A perfect description. Don't worry, in
a day or two they'll be off Arnold and back to their
own worrying about avoiding mucus-producing foods &
getting enough wheat germ in their diets. Also, their
facial and manicure appointments will distract them.
