By Malcolm Ritter AP Science Writer Wednesday, May 9, 2001; 1:39 a.m. EDT

NEW ORLEANS –– An explosive new study says some gay people can turn straight if they really want to.

That conclusion clashes with that of major mental health organizations, which say that sexual orientation is fixed and that so-called reparative therapy may actually be harmful.

I did not come here to defend homosexuality, nor did I to defend abortion, even if I do think it has to be allowed . . .

As, of course, you do. And that was the original point with which you took issue--that homosexuality and abortion are sacred cows to leftists because the agenda of the left is the destruction of the family (or, to please PC people like yourself, the "replacement" of the family as it has been known throughout human history with something they happen to prefer this week). And you call the viewpoints expressed here dangerous!!!!

I respect your point of view, and I'd like you to behave in the same way... And you will not convince me by those means.

I'm not trying to convince you. People who think homosexuality and abortion somehow make this world better can be convinced otherwise--but only by sad experience.

He was never abused and had a good relationaship with his dad.

How interesting. The few gay men I have known had terrible relations with their fathers. Dads were either absentee, abusive, or alcoholics. I'm aware that my very limited acquaintances with gay men are not sufficient for broad generalizations, but they do fit nicely with the common perception that gay men are looking for love that they didn't get from their fathers.

Of course straights can go gay.

Anyone can change their behavior.

Sorry, didn't finish my thought in previous post...

That was all leading up to my belief that homosexuality is a behavioral defect, not a genetic one.

prisons come to mind. Of course sexual conduct returns to normal afterwards. (I suspect that homoadvocates include inmate populations in their numbers)

I have also asked the same question, why do they get so much air time and all this "Gay Pride Week" etc.... I really wish they would all go back in the closet....

Is that mean for me to say that?

I am surfing on this forum to understand better how American conservatives see the world. Sometimes I reply because I'd like to get to read some answers to what I think. So my point is absolutely not to fight with you, even though I totally disagree with most of the topics on the forum and even find some of them very dangerous.

I, for one, welcome you... as long as you're truly here to learn and not to stir up trouble. The more you know (NOT feel) the more conservative your outlook will become.

By the way, words are not dangerous. Even ones you disagree with.

Almost without exception the gay men I know (and that's too many to count) have a story of some kind of sexual trauma or abuse in their childhood - molestation by a parent or an authority figure, or seduction as a adolescent by an adult.

That's a powerful anecdotal comment. Does she go on to express a general opinion? She's a lesbian, no?

Are there any statistics?

people that claim to have been werewolves in the past, and are not werewolves now to "prove" my thesis.

But we wouldn't believe they had ever been werewolves, would we?

Your analogy seems flawed.

Homosexuality is a behavior. Just stop doing that.

I think it's often an "imprinted" behavior, but yes, stop the behavior and meanwhile work on redeeming the mind and heart....

Yes, she's a lesbian. No, she doesn't provide statistics. She was writing about risky behaviors for AIDS being promoted within the homosexual community. She follows up with:

The gay community must face the truth and see sexual molestation of an adolescent as the abuse it is, instead of the "coming-of-age" experience many regard it as being. Until then, the Gay Elite will continue to promote a culture of alcohol and drug abuse, sexual promiscuity, and suicide by AIDS.

No, my position did not change. It was Dr. Spitzer who changed his mind after interviewing 200 ex-homosexuals. If you want to state his study is flawed then you should ask him what he found that was so compelling he reversed his position that homosexuals could successfully leave the lifestyle.

What demonstrates the bias of the APA is Dr. Spitzer wanted to discuss his findings with his peers but they were not interested in the growing number of ex-homosexuals.

Whenever I have seen a millitant gay activist, they often remind me of a rabid dog, vicious and unreproachable.
