Descartes yes, scriptures, no.

The heading reads: iPod, therefore i Am. [..] So, when I see commerce using the scriptures to promote themselves Descartes = "the scriptures"??
I sure hope this is parody. If so, it's hilarious! :-)
To: klimeckg
The phrase "I think, therefore I am" comes from Rene Descartes'
Discourse on Method. While Descartes was very religious, the phrase does not come from religious scripture by any means.

Descartes said "I think therefore I am." It's not in the Bible.
BTW, wasn't Descartes an atheist?

If you're alluding to "I think, therefore, I am", that's Rene Descartes, not Scripture.

I am told that Mr. Wang put his name in big letters on the top of the Wang building in Boston
There's a lot of companies that put their name on buildings and things: Heinz, Coors, DuPont, ad infinitum. What's your point?

Wow, are you confused. It's not like he said "I am the name that must not be spoken: iPod."

And it is reported that Wang computers fell due to such boasting. I am told that Mr. Wang put his name in big letters on the top of the Wang building in Boston. Do you have any idea how many companies are named after their founder?

Well I can't speak to what you say but I do know that Jobs is making the same mistake with the iPod that he made with the Mac back in 1984. While the iPod is admittedly the coolest MP3 player out there, it is overpriced and too proprietary (you can only download Apple's AAC format off iTunes).
There are already lower-priced MP3 jukeboxes on the market that can basically do what the iPod can do and once these competitors produce a product that is at least as good (interface-wise), they will quickly eat Apple's lunch.
BTW, the iPod is saving Apple's bacon right now. The iPod now accounts for nearly 30% of Apple's revenue and they are not gaining any market share computer-wise. So if the iPod loses it's lustre, Apple is in deep trouble.

Now, whether Mr. Jobs said this or simply allowed Newsweek to use the line I do not know, but he must have approved of it.Not only don't you know Scripture...you don't know the magazine business either. Subjects DO NOT get any input WHATSOEVER on headlines/titles/editorial decisions.
